Excellent. Gives you 22 years to come to your senses and withdraw your application.

We are not sure how long the position will last in the positions we are not sure we have.

"indeterminate" is Fed speak for full time. A contractor or auxiliary employee is under "determinate" status, that is he is working for a fixed or determined amount of time.ehbuddy wrote:Employment Tenure: Indeterminate

I find it hard to believe that with TC just being told that they have to reduce their budget by almost 10 % they are are going to be hiring anybody....

Sorry for poking fun at the posting as I am sure the poster meant well.
I have just found that in my years involved in this industry I know of many people who have danced in the TC Dog and Pony Show. They fully believed that employment was just around the corner never to hear back from them.

Seriously though I hear a lot of negative comments towards TC Civil Aviation on this site.
Maybe this is an opportunity for somebody to have some input?
There's no harm in applying...even if it takes years to hear back.
...or maybe we can all sit back and continue to complain...

Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
Do any of you guys think the salary is a little low? What experience level are they looking for in a successful candidate? It's not too hard to find a better-paying job in the private sector...isn't it? Are inspectors considered to be "entry-level" federal employees?
Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
It is a union job so entry level rates do apply.
They once hired an inspector right out of BCIT a number of years ago...with no experience at all...in which case the pay was awesome!
...please don't let this happen again...

Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
Bear in mind that is core salary.
You get paid O/T plus per diems, plus recruitment & retention bonus, an excellent benefit package, plus you're working toward an excellent pension program that continues til you die, plus interesting specialty training.
Beyond that, it's up to you what you make of it, and how you treat with the public you deal with.
Its important to realize from the beginning that you are working for the travelling public.

Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
It's interesting how misinformation gets started and just blossoms from there, here are a few facts;
- some over time usually toward year end
- per diems yes at Federal Standard
- retention and recruitment bonus NOT EVER in this organization
- excellent pension and benefits most definitely
- interesting specialty training and type training absolutely
And as far as the pay rate goes, by industry standard for the level of experience being sought after (management experience preferred) it is at the lower end of the payscale however, you aren't on call 24/7, you're expected to take holidays and if you prefer to work a compressed work week-every second Friday or Monday off.
There are some trade offs but as single_swine_herder suggests-it is what you make of it!

Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
No R&R? It used to be an extra 4 grand or so, and there was O/T during audits ... now PVIs throughout the year.
Times change I guess.

Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
A candidate hired off the street may come in at any of about six increment levels within that pay scale--initial external hiring is one of the very few times you can negotiate salary, but whatever you do negotiate must be within that pay scale and at the set increments. Then, at whichever level you're hired at, you'd get an additional $549.17/month, or as negotiated for the national contract.$66,568 to $75,977 (There will be an additional monthly terminable allowance of $549.17, as per the collective agreement. (Currently under review)
Remember the pay scales are national, so while they may be low for one part of the country they may be high for another.

So they do still have the R&R allowance ..... I hadn't heard of it being terminated.

Re: Transport Canada hiring Airworthiness Inspectors
The Recruitment & Retainment Allowance was a terminable allowance given to CAIs (pilot inspectors). I don't recall if it is still being used, or if it was given to other groups. Various groups got various terminable (meaning they can end with a new contract) allowances for different reasons/excuses. I believe they're used in contract negotiations where the employer doesn't want to, for whatever reason, increase the actual salary but will increase the overall compensation package.
