Bombardier is a large corporation with hundreds of jobs open in all fields - expect a slow response.

Looking for some insight into the posted Instructor positions at Bombardier. Have some info but would appreciate more details regarding pay/benefits and schedule. From my experience during recurrent training at FSI the simulators at these facilities are operated 24/7. Is this true for BAT as well. What does a typical schedule look like during initial qualification training and then after you are up to speed? Where does the pay start and top out?

Thanks in advance.

hello
from what I know after having talked to the HR rep over the phone you'll start by following (watching/learning) the grd school during a long time (1 y approx) after that you'll start teaching the grd school on year 2 and you'll do your TR within that time frame. also depends if you hold one of the TR you'll be teaching.
it's a slow process and they expect you to stay for a while of course. you won't instruct in the sim in the first 2 years i believe, so you can expect a 9/5 job at the beginning.
don't expect to fly at all, they may ask you why you wanna give up flying, desk job mostly.
I think, but this requires confirmation, pay starts around 60/70k with a 10k increase when you get you TR, and then after that I don't know, but people don't complain from what I know.
bombarbier has around 30 thousand employee in the aeronautical division so they might be able to give you pretty decent benefits and retirement plan.
some people here may have different and more accurate info.
good luck

OK, this is the real deal.

You sign a 2-year training bond. It disappears at 1000/month and has no effect on your pay. Considering your type rating costs 2+ times that, its no biggy. Bombardier has a large legal department. You have a lot to learn, especially if you have no glass nor jet experience. You will get your type rating immediately, get your FAA ATPL, then you begin watching G.S. and will start teaching it within 3 months under supervision. You will become a SME. All this time you will be assisting in the sim as crew or beginning instructing and doing Systems Integration. You will do all the BAOM requirements, dinghy drill, fire-fighting, TSA, Intl procedures, emergency stuff, cultural awareness etc. during this time. You will be busy. You should be fully qualified as a sim instructor by 6 months, when you will get a raise. You will be doing the EASA stuff at the same time, although you will NOT get a EASA license. After one further year instructing you will become a TCE and soon after, an SFE. You will occasionally fly green and completed aircraft on production test flights and you will fly with clients as crew on their own aircraft, all over the world. Not nearly as much as you might like.

The money is good, pensions and benefits are good, they have a sh!tload of aircraft orders so you can make a career there. You will have a schedule. The simulators are "usually" shut down from midnight to 6:00 for maintenance.

There are other flying departments too. My friend says they are looking for 9 instructor-pilots for replacements and new aircraft programs. They have free French lessons.

Don't plan to fly much (in a real airplane, that is) until you stay long enough to transfer to a flying department.
If you have a professional attitude, can pass a drug test and have no criminal record, have a determination for excellence, want to learn and teach others how to fly the newest aircraft out there (some haven't even been built) and meet pilots from all over the world, relish a challenge, don't want to fly much for a couple of years...

Did I say there wouldn't be much flying? You will have to take a break from that bit for a while but you will end up with a very useful type rating (or three) and have now got the background for anything. Plus you will be paid.

The people who work there are great and you might even make a few friends.

Did the initial phone contact a month ago, filled out a detailed questionnaire, then a preliminary phone interview.
Was told we'll contact you in a few weeks, then nothing. Glad to see some real info and that i may not have been passed by.

Thanks.
