Pilot speaks on CBC regarding the Foreign workers program
Here is the MP3 extracted from the CBC show that was broadcasted in the wake of the RBC scandal.

The silence of the interviewer at the beginning is quite interesting and shows how little people know about the practices in the canadian aviation industry.
Feel free to share the link as much as you want!

hmm, living in Ms. Raitt's riding and an airline pilot. <Speculating> I wonder if he's suffering from buyer's remorse over his last federal election ballot?

Replacing Canadian workers with foreign ones is the hot button issue right now. The bank workers are having a field day and getting a good amount of press over the issue.
I would encourage people to write in to the press covering this issue to let them know banks and miners are not the only people facing this problem. Get the airlines mentioned in the press as well. If we all grumble to ourselves, nothing will change.
This issue as a topic in the press is getting it's 15 minutes of fame. Time is ticking until the press and politicians move on to another issue.

Everybody is complaining that foreign peoples are taking the jobs of Canadian pilots, but no one mentions that some pilots and Canadian aircraft come to europe for the summer session for 1 to 6 months (Sunwings). It works both ways.

I will mention it then.Tomasz wrote:Everybody is complaining that foreign peoples are taking the jobs of Canadian pilots, but no one mentions that some pilots and Canadian aircraft come to europe for the summer session for 1 to 6 months (Sunwings). It works both ways.
In 2010, you sent 3 aircraft and crew to Viking. That should have allowed Sunwing to bring in three European aircraft and crew. In exchange you brought in 8 aircraft and crew from Thomson
In 2011, you sent you sent three aircraft and crew to Europe, 2 to Thomson and 1 to Travel Service. In exchange, that winter you brought in 18 aircraft and crew from various TUI owned companies plus Travel Service.
In 2012, you sent 4 aircraft and crew to Europe. In exchange, you brought in 22 aircraft and crew from Europe, from EuroAtlantic, various TUI owned companies and Travel Service.
This summer, you are going to send 7 aircraft and crew to Europe.
How many European aircraft and crew do you think that will entitle Sunwing to bring into Canada next winter?
25 ? 30 ? What would be fair according to you ?

Gilles,
I saw you on CBC program and you are an EXCELLENT and well spoken ambassador for pilots in this country. I have said this to you before and I will say this again: THANK YOU.
This is just one of the many battles that are going on in the labour market about this foreign worker policy and you are giving it the good fight for all of us in aviation.
Kudos

Hey Adamus: Where the f*ck are you on this? That's okay, just let everyone else do your job for you.

Bravo Gilles,
I watched all aspects of todays' discussion via the CBC website and thought that you represented the overwhelming majority of Canadian Pilots' views extremely well. It looks as though the issue has finally reached critical mass and that your efforts are bearing measurable results.
I don't think I am exaggerating by saying that ALL Canadians owe you a debt of gratitude.
Thank You Captain Hudicourt

So that shows that you need more aircraft. Do you expect the airline to buy more planes just for the winter session, that does not make good business sense. Also if you need more aircraft why are you not leasing them from a Canadian company are they to expensive, does Canada have enough of them. Also I here about people also seeing that there are thousand of people that are experinced, they may have thousands of hours, but do they have a type rating or hours on type, if not, they are not experinced on that type of aircraft. But you expect a company to train people on a jet just to fly for a half a year and then lay them off, because the winter session has ended

Tomasz,
Didn't you listen the man when he said that check on type is not a reason to get foreign pilots in here? So you are telling me that with my 15000 hours and check on type on 3 different Boeing and 1 Airbus I would not be qualified to fly the B737 NG at Sunwing to the eyes of this immigration minister and I should suck it up? I was flying jets into south destinations 10 years before Sunwing was created. And when a company need a pilot they were hiring and trained a CANADIAN pilot.
Who cares where the aircraft are coming from as long as the tail has CG or CF stamp on it it's called a Canadian aircraft and those are to be flown by Canadian pilots.
Do you get it?
