Hi guys,

Re: Recent interview calls
Well with it will be my 50th bday this year, So didn't want to go to the ole folks home in my 80s wondering could a -should a , so put in the app in late jan -feb and low n behold was pleasantly surprized I got an interview . got a good new hair cut, new suit with tie in subtle ac colours, ref lined up etc.
The retired 777 capt Steve and Jim a 767capt retired doing the interviews were amazing. 65yrs ac exp. between them. They were so smooth you felt going to catholic priest confessional about your career and wanted to have them over for a steak barbie afterwards . dont ever be stupid ( I was direct ,polite ) and deflect their questions answer them to your best ability they are that good. the only thing i felt was many behavioural question in the computer testing were geared for young 20-30 somethings. less life history less to trip you up yet honesty is the key so if you are an older interviewee 40+ make sure your kit ( life is together) personally too> they hire people to watch you just to make sure .
Ms. Jennifer Steadman pilot hiring hr manager, is super and so incredibily efficient ,an all round top drawer person with the mega brains and looks +
so . here is how it went email to say we would like to interview you here are some dates its first come first serve.
rapid reply to email saying yes waited 30 yrs for this so no time to hesitate now, took first availble date ( 2 days hence ). This is Where Jennifer shines> in 45 minutes of you selecting the flt you wanted to toronto from your nearest Air canada city (cannot be code share ) she had the ticket confirmation .with the interview set all up . When you arrived she had the thing timed like a swiss watch and it went like clock work
next /arrive the afternoon or night before if at all possible , I studied like crazy expecting critical point and point of no return and performance charts til 1 am . Wrong tactic it was 600 question all psych, they have really bulked up on that since ac fo/ or capt (forget which )had a bad day over the atlantic 6-7 yrs ago. Its is broken down into four blocks and memory skills and math skills but not easy after all the yrs in the north. 3 time zones and an eighteen hour day.
then you are done by 5 pm and back to your little part of the world wondering what if they do call . unlike before they now let you know within 8 biz weeks of the interview date. They have scheduled courses for those hired running every month this year, with 3 new 777 arriving plus retirements =3 % of current staff levels 2800 up wards ;going to 3200 pilots system wide Those that got hired back in 2012 get the defined benefit pension, this yr forward its defined contribution .
Result for me was today : did not get the call, that was disappointing, with no explanation not end of the world . I was glad to be considered of the 5000 resumes apps a yr they get and interviewed among the tops in my profession and will be content going forward now. can re apply in 6months. I think now I would have taken a later date to prepare vs 36 hours til interview. As with all things in life , opportuntity knocks so many times, though hi time 10k + im light on turbine pic twin so will add some and no over 12500lbs time, so that may have played a factor.
There where 3 others (great guys ) on the day I interviewed> all from pascan speak fluent french and english bae31 -32 exp and knew some guys working for ac in the training center . I have only 15 -17yrs to retirement and not
knowing the hiring matrix , unless jennifer is reading this.lol
pm me oh start pay is 50 k with 24 month probation and flt passes after 6months perdiems etc .
Things to do before interview Have log books all upto date and certified !! hope that helps best to all

oldncold,
Sorry it didn't work out for you. Good informative post. I have to ask, you stated "they hire people to watch you just to make sure".
What is that about?

Re: Recent interview calls
hey say again >all major corp's looking to hire people at exec level, that is what this job is, If you stop n thing about it : high public profile, expected levels of trust etc . Will do this extensive background cks, to ensure even though you aced the interview your personal kit is just as solid. that will likely involve pi firm observing for a few days your behavoiur so to get a confirmation of the personality in your off time.
this is partly why it takes several weeks to months to get back to successful interviewees

First of all, my head hurts trying to read your posts. After reading them several times, I think I understand what you are trying to say.oldncold wrote:hey say again >all major corp's looking to hire people at exec level, that is what job if you stop n thing about it will do this extensive bk cks to ensure even though you aced the interview your personal kit is just as solid. that will likely involve pi firm observing for a few days your behavoiur so to get a confirmation of the personality in your off time.this is partly why it takes several weeks to months to get back to successful interviewees
I highly doubt that Air Canada hires a private investigator to observe it's pilot candidates during their off time.
Re: Recent interview calls
I agree with this, although I expect that they might use corporate security or contract out someone to check their web presence. I heard people getting called into the office post-FOS due to things being posted on stuff like public facebooks. The Raven wrote:First of all, my head hurts trying to read your posts. Re: Recent interview calls
oldancold is right! If you have a facebook account, they will find and look at it. It tells them volumes about you and the people you hang with. Sorry, this is a fact of life, social media sites have been the downfall of many good candidates.

How wrong you are. Got a phone call some years back asking about a certain person living near us. Learned some time later it was an AC pilot, of all people. So, be aware and always be on your best behavor as BIG BROTHER is watching you.

Ummmm...nope, Raven nailed it. I'm not sure who called you or what the circumstances were, but AC does not hire private investigators to tail prospective pilots during their down time. Or during their duty time, for that matter. Checking social media, on the other hand, is almost certainly done: it's standard practice now for any large employer.

Someone's a bit paranoid. Thank God you're retired.

Re: Recent interview calls
Oh man, don't leave us all hanging. What does it say? I looked around and this is all I could find:nope, but it's a
nice try
-most likely aged 25-44
-have a College or higher education
-household income above $50k
-are one of any two Canadians
-have at least 190 people in your network
-possibly one of the 400,000 people who like AC's own posts there

That huge dose of reality that will certainly hit you square and center will someday inject some common sense in that brain of yours. The real world is quite different from what you seem to project from your posts but then, reality is sometimes very hard to swallow when one is living on a jaded cloud. Also, being a '' bit paranoid '' sometimes helps avoid unseen obstacles. Best of luck drilling holes thru the clouds, if that is your occupation, mine is way better.
