No diploma/degree..
Does AC hire people without diplomas/degrees? I know the page says "preference will be given...".
I ask because I've applied a few times and updated my application religiously, and have never heard anything back! Meanwhile, a few people I know (with very similar instructing times, and turbine times) have gotten on over the last couple of months.. The only difference I can tell is that they have an "Aviation Program" diploma!
Can anyone shed some light?

Isn't today your first day of work at Jazz?
This is what's wrong with aviation.

No one is holding a gun to your head to stay in this industry you know. If you're unhappy, you really should look for something else.Old fella wrote:Aw jeeez.......... did they, did they really!!!aV1aTOr wrote:They hired me.

So I guess you're bored, which explains your trolling here to insult the next generation of pilots who are excited to begin the career you enjoyed for 30+ years....

Naw, not at all AO. Half of'em haven't been around long enough to understand how tough it is and will be. I suspect they will learn/understand at some point.Adam Oke wrote:Tough crowd eh Old fella

Try saying something nice and if you can't then say nothing, might get you some respect, which has to be earned like "old fella".

Have any of the highly-respected posters drifting through this thread made any attempt to answer the original poster's question? Or do they simply troll for a good argument? Get a hobby guys.

Not respected - highly or otherwise - but I'll give it a stab.aV1aTOr wrote:Have any of the highly-respected posters drifting through this thread made any attempt to answer the original poster's question? Or do they simply troll for a good argument? Get a hobby guys.
Air Canada seems to change their hiring policy more often than YYZ changes departure runways after you've started taxiing, lately though it appears they do hire people without post secondary education. Tomorrow....who knows?
Re: No diploma/degree..
About 6 years ago, I recieved a call from AC regarding a reference check on a friend of mine. After the reference was dealt with a conversation ensued, the jist of it was for me to tell my friends that the diploma/degree was no longer an issue and basically some 704/705 time would put you in the running. The applicant pool was drying up and that is what you are seeing today.
If we should suffer another recession or some global pandemic that decimates the airline industry, the diploma/degree will likely become a requirement again, my two cents anyway.

Re: No diploma/degree..
I think you're spot on. I was lucky enough to be qualified at a time when hiring was going strong and the pool was thinning. Years ago when I was getting into aviation I had written off AC since I didn't have any post secondary education, and it was a hard requirement. It's all about supply and demand.mbav8r wrote:About 6 years ago, I recieved a call from AC regarding a reference check on a friend of mine. Seems like you have the right to dish it out but not take it, what gives you the holy right to be the "moderator supreme"?aV1aTOr wrote:Have any of the highly-respected posters drifting through this thread made any attempt to answer the original poster's question? Re: No diploma/degree..
The original posters question was answered in the second post of this thread by altiplano. Yes, Air Canada has hired pilots without a degree or diploma. However, completing post-secondary education seems to yield an interview with lower experience.aV1aTOr wrote:Have any of the highly-respected posters drifting through this thread made any attempt to answer the original poster's question? Wait? Trolling on Avcanada isn't a hobby?
Re: No diploma/degree..
From what I see from friends, the ones with a diploma get a call with 2200-2500 TT with 703 MPIC time, ones without get a call around 4000TT with 705 time and previous 703-4 MPIC.
