Westjet 2013 Hiring!

Post by Transonic »

The recent negativity on this forum has done well to squash any positive news at Westjet, particularly with hiring.

With WJHR promoting Westjet’s values of honesty and openness, I thought we can best use their knowledge to answer questions regarding the exciting hiring that’s occurring at Westjet for 2013. Remember, no other airline in Canada does this here.

So far I can gather for 2013,
96 737 spots
80 Dash-8 spots
737 GS to be filled are June 24, July 15, Sept 30 and Oct 21

Other positive news,
Q4 Earnings of 60.9 million with 2012 earnings at 242.4 million
103rd 737 joined the fleet recently
30-40 737s on order (not sure of exact number)
No expired leased aircraft have been returned

My questions for WJHR,

With 96 737 pilots needed and 5 GS already filled/completed this year, how many positions are left?
Will interviewing continue for the 737 this year now that the job posting was pulled down?

I, like many other lurkers very much appreciate your input WJHR. Please keep it up.

Thank you

April 22nd course offers went out last week. There isn't much of a hiring pool left, in fact interviewing is continuing twice weekly. Wj is having a hard time keeping ahead of the hiring this year between the two companies. The WJ posting is down but will be up soon again. This purges the pool from old or interviewed applicants etc. the encore listing has been re-posted yesterday. Westjets will follow likely when Davep gets back from holidays.

Average GS class size is 8-10 people so rough guess is 32-40 more to be hired. All subject to the usual changes.

Still no pilot posting. :( Here's to patiently waiting.

Will the wait be all summer?

Heard the first 3 Ground schools at Encore are already filled, and interviews twice a week for both companies going forward.

Q1 News,
CALGARY, May 7, 2013 /CNW/ - WestJet (TSX: WJA) today announced its first quarter results for 2013. The airline reported record net earnings of $91.1 million, or $0.68 per diluted share, up from the net earnings of $68.3 million, or $0.49 per diluted share reported in the first quarter of 2012. These results mark WestJet's 32nd consecutive quarter of profitability.
WestJet announced today it has entered into an agreement with a third party under which WestJet will sell 10 of its oldest Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft to that party in 2014 and 2015, and concurrently entered an agreement with Boeing to purchase 10 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft in 2014 and 2015, effectively reducing the average age of WestJet's fleet by approximately one year. WestJet has deferred the delivery of five Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft from 2014 and 2015 to 2016 and 2017.
Anyone have any news on the hiring front? With 5 aircraft deferred until 2016/17, will we see a slow down in 737 hiring until 2015?

The -700's are deferred until 2016-17. You can always apply at Encore and wait it out.

I should also point out that at the end of 2012, 13 737-700 were planned to be delivered during the 2014/15 timeframe. One would suppose that the number is now 8 aircraft. Still exciting.

Says a cult member.... Discussion is only threatening or sickening to the weak and nothing truly progresses without a thorough understanding and bantering around of ideas and opinions. I have been a member of three unions over the course of my career and am ambivelent towards ever being part of another, however ALL the unions I have been apart of had an understanding of Aviation that makes PACT seem like a kids club on a cruise.
If discussing unions makes you sick Id suggest its time to take a real good look around and have a look at some of the advantages they offer.

Still no mainline WJ posting, just Encore.

Shall we assume it'll only be flow through from now on?

Do the Encore guys get date of hire when they move over to the mainline? I've heard they start all over when they move over to boeing, can anyone confirm?

Good day all,

I am considering applying for a job as a FA with West jet Encore. I was wondering if anyone had some answers for me;

1. What is the starting salary?
2. I live in Halifax they are based in Calgary...so do I have to move? Or can I "fly" to work?
3. How is West jet to work for?

Im not sure if this is the right form, so please forgive me if I am wrong.

Thanks for all your help!!

Could the sale of 10 frames have any impact on future hiring? I understand the new deliveries have been pushed back too. Is this because of q400's efficiency and crew costs are so much cheaper? Inquiring minds need to know before applying. Ty!
