Re: New cracks in 215's and T's
Hmm. I asked around our place recently (as part of my spring routine!
); the engineers said that they'd heard nothing new - might it have been a hangover from something found last year, and just working its way through the system? But, that's not quite an 'emergency' timeline... reading through the document, that seems pretty similar to how I understand ours were cracked two years or so back..
Glad I'm on a new 'plane, though! Signed the logbook the other day at 265 hours TTAF!

Not likely to be a biggie, in France, they beat them around scooping in the open ocean for decades
in heavy seas with wings beating like an overloaded seagull...yet the French bragged of never ever having ANY cracks,
unlike their DC-6 who had each a couple hundred scab patches all over the wings...until:

I heard that 415 had a previous unreported hard tail runway hit(stall?)
Anyone got the official reason for the separation?

They they bounced off the top of a hill while bombing on an upslope. The hit was hard enough to break the back of the aircraft and it broke up in flight shortly thereafter.SheriffPatGarrett wrote:

Re: New cracks in 215's and T's
Out there, goons set fire under the power lines to be able to get good
videos of the boys trying to put the fire out(lines zig-zag on near vertical slopes)
Since they use seawater, touching any one the lines while still live
produce what look like a small nuke.
Quite a few firefighters on the ground got killed that way.
On the other hand, any firebug(anarchists, mostly in Italy or France...Turkish saboteurs in Greece)
that get spotted by the firebombers tend to "disappear"...
Six tons of water at 100 knots and ten feet will do that!

Good story though....

Meh...you see a puff of smoke as you patrol fully loaded(this was done mostly by the Trackers)
You dive to it and you spy a trail bike kicking dust, hightailing away at full throttle...what do you do?
What do you bomb?
By the way, I read a French report strenuously denying that this 415 hit or was anywhere near that ridge,
according to their helicopter bird dog...it was supposed to be an unreported runway tail strike of some previous flight.
If you look closely, it still had his water load on, as per the spray around it.
The Canadairs had a lot of accidents(had more attrition than the Stukas, for a while), but
that's the first structural failure that I seen...sabotage? There's a lot of lunatics thereabout...
South of France is like La La Land in the US.
Anyone has the final accident report?

Umm, you bomb the fire, as that's your job? Your scenario/attitude leads one to think that you might well drop on someone on purpose...What happens if it was a holdover lightning fire, and buddy on the bike is hightailing it to the nearest road to tell someone?SheriffPatGarrett wrote:Meh...you see a puff of smoke as you patrol fully loaded(this was done mostly by the Trackers)

I think that the final accident report was inconclusive as to the cause - there was evidence that they hit the ridge, just not enough to prove that ripped the tail off. I'm sure that the French would love to blame the accident on someone other than the pilots...

Re: New cracks in 215's and T's
As an old oirish copper can tell a crook on sight, a firebug and a firefighter are just not the same.
Remember that this is not happening much in Canada,
but pretty much all Lalaland fires and Mediterranean fires are from firebugs.
If you see someone with a torch in hand next to a fire...he's not putting it out but setting it!
They just caught a bunch of turkish neo-nazis firebugs in Greece
that were sent by Erdogan and caused these huge fires last spring.

Islamic jihadists setting Europe-wide forest fires
http://sheikyermami.com/setting-the-wor ... a-firebug/
As threatened. Is this happening in the U.S.? “Al-Qaeda blamed for Europe-wide forest fires,”
from AFP, October 3 :
Al-Qaeda has been blamed for a recent series of forest fires across Europe, as the head of
Russia’s Federal Security Service claimed they were set by arsonists as part of
the group’s low-cost attack strategy.
Deadly fires have swept through forest land in EU countries
such as Portugal and Spain. (Gomera is destroyed)
“One should note that setting fires to forests in the countries
of the European Union is a new tendency in al-Qaeda’s strategy
of a ‘thousand cuts’,” Alexander Bortnikov said, according to state
news agency RIA Novosti, at a meeting of heads of security agencies.
“This method allows (al-Qaeda) to inflict significant economic and
moral damage without serious preliminary preparations, technical
equipment or significant expenses.”
In linking al-Qaeda to the deadly wildfires, Mr Bortnikov pointed to
calls to launch a “forest jihad” by various extremist websites which
he said also publish detailed instructions about how and where to best carry out arson.
He said it was very difficult for special services
to find and prosecute such arsonists.
Where there is a will there is a way.
Either lock them up or deport them. Fort starters…..
Deadly fires have swept through forest land in EU countries such as
Portugal and Spain over the past few months, killing scores
of people and forcing thousands to evacuate.
In its continuing campaign against the West, al-Qaeda has vowed
to “bleed the enemy to death” by resorting to inexpensive,
low-scale attacks it refers to as a “strategy of a thousand cuts”.

Re: New cracks in 215's and T's
In America, you have to cope with foot high wavelets and bomb on 500 feet tall eskers.Umm, I call Bullshit!
Over there, you scoop open ocean fifteen feet waves and bomb on the side of 3000 feet tall vertical cliffs,
dodging "ecologic" painted green power lines towers with wires between trees and unmarked radio antennas...etc...etc...
Thus their attrition rate...check with Canadair.
Re: New cracks in 215's and T's
Yep and they have been operating Canadairs for close to 50 years and I am pretty sure the Stuka's had a little shorter operating time span.
Also your wave height comparisons are a little bit exaggerated.

"SheriffPatGarrett",
I have been in this business for a long time and reading your posts makes me think you have not. Stop typing "firebug and LALALAND". It makes you sound like a five year old. Arsonists and Las Angeles County(if thats what you mean) are professional terms. Never has anyone ever "bombed" anyone on purpose let alone in an on the spot arsonist trial, conviction and punishment. The main cause of accidents in the European aerial fire fighting world is lack of respect. Respect of your environment, aircraft performance, fellow pilots etc. But thats their business, just don't blame the aircraft manufacturer. Last off, since when did dropping salt water on power lines cause a "nuclear" like explosion? Have you ever witnessed this event? No you have no.
