WJ On the Move?

Post by b767jetmec »

Just heard the other day that WJ will be moving their ops from T2 to T3 in YYZ as early as the end of June. Any info out there?

Is this connected with loss of gates due to the ongoing expansion of T1?

It was at WJ's request. I don't know the diffrence myself but I was told it is going to be very good for WJ and make things a lot less complicated for WJ personnel and it's passengers.

Its a crock of #$% actually. Westjet thought a few years ago that they should get some gates in the new terminal in yyz. Air canada had other plans for that. So Westjet was put into T2 at their request. After Aircanada moved their domestic flights out of T2 it looked like a ghost town, and most of the vendors left because of poor business. Now Westjet wants back into terminal three where they started from so it won't look like a ghost town anymore and their guests can grab a bit to eat or drink before their flights.

Westjet wanted and was granted gates at the new terminal. AC opposed this and took the GTAA to court to block WJ's access to the new terminal. They were successful.

There was not enough room at T3 for Westjet due to their expansion so they went to T2 , the least palatable solution.

Once JetsGo went under and recently declared bankruptcy the gates at the more preferable T3 became available.

Why is it a crock that WJ wants to serve its customers as best as it can?

T-3 is a much nicer place to work out of. I actually like it better than the new T-1. Somehow seems more... comfortable.

Westjet wanted the exact same gates that were already granted to Air Canada. I agree that the GTAA was to blame. I'm sure that behind the scenes the fact that Air Canada owed the GTAA a sizeable amount but was not paid due to CCAA had something to do with the squable.

As far as WestJet not being able to expand, seems JetsGo was able to go from around 7-8 airplanes up to around 28 airplanes out of T3 so I'm sure it was feasable.

What is a load of #$% is pretty much everything the GTAA does as well as WestJet playing ring around the rosie and ending up back at square one. Airports play favourites, look at WestJet and YYC airport. AC and YUL, YYZ airports, actually almost every airport AC flies into now that I think about it.

I have worked out of every terminal in YYZ and T3 is my favourite. Welcome back to where you started.

Now if we could just get back in to the Shereton, life would be perfect in YYZ.

Congrats on the move to T-3. It will be a much nicer place to work out of and I agree with bcflyer in that it is nicer than T-New.

Last day into Ter#2 is 21 Jun. Thereafter will be Ter#3. Politics does play a part. Look at the cancellation of New York LGA. WJ was not putting enough flights in and out of LGA and therefore dropped WJ gates so there was no longer access to LGA. Last flight in or out is Jul 4 2005.

Flown out of T3 and as of a coupel days ago T2 and its like night and day!

I counted 2 vendors inside security! No timmies (T3 does)

T2 in my own opinion is a peice of junk and i welcome a move back to t3!

But thats just my opinion!

T2 is on the way out - who wants to be in a terminal which is only going to get smaller, unless UA goes through a growth spurt (unlikely).

I wish T1's shops hadn't all these madeup names - just call it Tim Hortons for god's sake!
