Bluebird flight academy in Chilliwack ?

Post by fionajay2 »

I am planning to join the Bluebird flight academy in Chilliwack, Canada, for commercial pilot training course. I selected this school because it meets all the requirements of Transport Canada as well as DGCA Is it a good choice ?
It'll be greatly helpful if I get some good response..

Thanks !

I suggest you to do it from Canada in Blue Bird Flight Academy as training conducted over there matches Indian DGCA requirement and of course you have further carrier option after completing training from there.

Never dealt with Bluebird so I can't comment on the school. However, I do wonder if a uncontrolled airdrome is a good idea for commercial training. Any senior pilots care to comment? Then again, Abbostford airport and practice area are pretty close to Chilliwack. What are the exact requirements that this particular school is meeting in regards to DGCA? I seen Indian students at ProIFR out of Boundary Bay, not like that place is a good place to train either.

I have also never dealt with bluebird but I think they make a great school bus for sure. So if you are looking to buy one I would say have your mechanic check it out and go for it.

Free advice for the OP: Don't take advice about a flight school from someone who's never been to it.
However, I do wonder if a uncontrolled airdrome is a good idea for commercial training.
Why wouoldn't it be? Do commercial pilots never fly into uncontrolled airspace? Perhaps you are referring to if an uncontrolled airport would be suitable for an airline feeding puppy mill operation, then maybe not so. After all, that controlled airspace stuff is very hard to learn.

OK, after further thoughts, it was a silly question. I original thought it may be a problem because some school never take students to controlled airspace resulting in poor radio operation. Since we're talking about CPL (and hopefully M/IFR), then they better learn radio ops.

kittycriston: care to explain the Indian DGCA requirement for foreign FTU? Do they actually have a list of approved FTU or did the FTU just stated that?

Running the risk of dragging this off topic, there's nothing really to "learn" about radio ops. Its a big bugbear for some pilots, be it uncontrolled or controlled that we're talking about. I've postulated before that this is due to your average human being's intense fear of speaking in public (incidentally fear of death ranks after fear of public speaking, wtf?!), speaking on the radio which is a form of.

It started a new base in Chiliiwack. I was there in school only when it shifted from London to Chilliwack. it was so because London weather was very snowy and rarely flying can be done in Winter but in Chilliwack we can fly round the year. This school has given me lots so I refer my every friend to there. Believe me if you are searching for any good institution for pilot training,it is one of them.
wish you good luck!! :)
Thank you so much

Somehow I guessed it was probably because of the "snow in London". Based on this comment would it be a good school to attend?
To the original individual posting this question you do some more research by searching old posts on here. I do know that they had a mishap with their twin aircraft quite early on after moving to Chilliwack. Its probably a school catering mainly to overseas students and the supply of these students will probably be what keeps it afloat. A word of advice on this is not to pay any money up front if you do decide on them and this goes with all schools. Try and find out the expereince levels of their Instructors and how long they stay around.
I havent been there either but theres probably some more digging required especially if theres been lots of negative reports in the past.

Blue Bird is good. Yes they have a history, but when they moved from London to Chilliwack they hired a whole new team of instructors, and a new CFI. Management is the same, but the CFI is great and runs a tight ship. They're a diamond in the rough if you ask me. I wouldn't hesitate referring students their way.
