This place is an airplane wrecking machine. 3 Navajos , the same 185 twice in the same calander year and now a king air. Not bad for the last 8 years.

I know nothing about the systems on a King Air 100 but it must be a simple enough airplane. How do you come to a stop with the gear up but doors open?
LnS.

Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
One possible way is to realize you forgot to put your wheels down, select them down too late, impact the runway, then when you realize you can no longer fly, pull the power levers back and settle onto the runway.lownslow wrote:I know nothing about the systems on a King Air 100 but it must be a simple enough airplane. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it could explain the open gear doors and the curly props.
Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
It does tend to indicate an incomplete cycle; short of the physical locks.
The A100 has a complete interlocking system which tends to prevent locking of all three, as apposed to just one.
A single false reading is possible,
So is an actuation failure of just the nose, via chain fail.
It's more likely that an actuation was initiated, but the cycle failed due to CB, or chain jamb.
With a few thousand hours on type, I've never had to pull the floor boards, but this is usually taught in good ground schools. And, good operators, have a wrench connected to the motor, under the floor, so that it may be disconnected to unlock a cycle jamb due to this component; ratcheting to three green.
Flight time suggests that this action was not taken.
Having said that, who knows?
I've worked for a company that had nothing but gear problems, but the fuel gauges were accurate to the gallon 100% of the time. Another company, never ever a gear problem, but they just could not get the fuel gauges to work for shit, no mater what. Same type, different AMO...
Same argument...
I think the previous poster's reasoning is just as likely as anything in this situation.
Just glad the guys were not hurt.

The KA 100 can have three green lights but the gear is not down and locked?

CADORS
A Wabusk Air Beech 100 (WU101) from Moosonee, ON (YMO) to Kapuskasing, ON (CYYU) was cleared for an approach to CYYU. Toronto ACC received a report from London FIC that the gear of WU101 collapsed on landing. There were two crew on board; no fatalities. A Bearskin Lake Air Fairchild SA227-DC (BLS308) inbound for CYYU diverted back to Timmins, ON (CYTS).
(added; News reports state no injuries to the two crew on board)

Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
Before we get too far out there I think that it's more likely that either the gear was selected late, or it was retracted in error by the PNF; confusing the flap actuation in the landing drill.
Or, the crew could just say what happened, cu'z they walked away...

What is the pilot going to disconnect, in flight, with this wrench, that the clutch didn't disconnect in the first place when an emergency extension attempt failed?
Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
If the electric motor seizes, you can release the motor from the gearbox by loosening two bolts.GyvAir wrote:What is the pilot going to disconnect, in flight, with this wrench, that the clutch didn't disconnect in the first place when an emergency extension attempt failed?
DOY, however, I believe is an ex-TC king air that they modified with hydraulic gear, so the standard A100 system is no longer there!
Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
Fair enough.. I think I'm picturing the system incorrectly. Classic case of keep your mouth shut until you confirm your information.

It seems to me just about every time you hear a King Air has crashed it was a 100 ? Why is this type so disproportionally represented in the accident statistics ?

This is Avcanada, we would never want to let the facts get in the way of the speculation.GyvAir wrote:Fair enough.. I think I'm picturing the system incorrectly. Classic case of keep your mouth shut until you confirm your information.
Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
True... we'd have nothing to talk about if none of us were ever wrong. Happy to make my contribution for the day!

Sounds very similar to the last Navajo crash with the Owner and CP on board. "The right main gear collapsed followed very shortly by the other two" Too bad that CADORS didn't mention that the aircraft was then dragged off the runway within 30 mins and buried in a snow bank beside the hangar so no one would see it.bizjets101 wrote:CADORS

Really? If you don't like the way I ask questions that is tough, who are you the forum judge?Your usual round about way point cat,
It is possible for an airplane to show gear down lights and the gear collapse on landing.
Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
I'm staying out of this one. I just wish pilots gave a shit. Many don't seem to. Sad, really. The lack or professionalism is mind boggling. And...I'm off this one.

Re: Wabusk Air C-FDOY in CYYU
Like you Doc I just do not understand how some pilots just accept these accidents as nothing more than a bit od bad luck and it is no big deal because no one got hurt.
Someone got hurt real bad financially.
