Insurance
Good day, I am very new to the flying stuff and was hoping for some input on insurance. I just bought a 1966 Cessna 182 J down in Florida and brought it back to Alberta. I had not in motion insurance put on the plane while it was going through the import process, cost was around 550 bucks for an insured value of 60,000. I am now done with the import process and would like full "gold" in motion coverage. I am being quoted 2000 +- for an insured value of 60,000. This is through Marsh and Copa. I do not have any hours in the 182 yet and only 55 in a 172. Like I said I am very new to this.
Does anyone have any suggestions or different companies to look at or is this price in line with what everyone pays.

Yes. Get a quote from AON in Calgary, and one from EAA's C-PLAN.

I would be interested to see what the other quotes come in at, but your 2000+ figure is what I pay for 65,000 gold coverage.
Make certain you understand EXACTLY what's covered and what isn't. Getting friends or instructors on your policy is usually very easy, but there may be conditions (min number of hours on type, etc) as well as restrictions (no commercial use, etc).

Hull insurance (all risks flight and ground) is usually 2% of the declared value; the rest is the liability insurance which sounds about right.
Aside from me as named pilot, my insurance includes (no extra charge) PIC coverage for
a) TC AMO employee to PIC a test flight after maintenance
b) starting and operated (not in flight) by any competent person
c) an instructor instructing according to TC regs for an IR, float endorsement, multi- endorsement. (How being instructed on a 182 on wheels can help you upgrade to a float or multi- rating, the policy doesn't specify.)
