Did you get your galley cart?
Because I can't post this on Westnet... Get a F$&king life people!!! If you want I can hook you up with some U/S parts from the scrap bin. It's a symptom of a much bigger problem unfortunately.

Sorry, but I just have to ask: what the hell are you talking about?bombardierfixer wrote:Because I can't post this on Westnet... Get a F$&king life people!!! If you want I can hook you up with some U/S parts from the scrap bin. It's a symptom of a much bigger problem unfortunately.

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
It is not for me to say whether the carts are scrap/junk etc. One mans trash is anothers treasure as the saying goes..
What disappoints me is how it was handled. For a company that preaches fairness the way this was executed was poor indeed. The fallout only continues to devide us..
imo

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
It's quite sad that this is even an issue. It's embarrassing.
I think WJ underestimated the amount of people that would be interested, especially at the price they were selling at. Had they been $75 the FA's would be saying how they can't afford it and how they're being ripped off. Had there only been 1 available per employee.... well. Who gives a shit. It's done. Move on.

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
Should also mention pilots & FA's bought half of the available carts from what I hear.
Re: Did you get your galley cart?
I wouldn't dismiss another employee group nor would I beleve any 'heresay' about who got what. What is sad is this minor issue shows the disconnect between the Campus and airport as shown on the comments section on westnet.
However there will be a new momo shortly recarding the carts. I for one applaud the decision. It is fair for all.
Way to go Westjet!

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
Old news. That third meeting was a long time ago, I'd say the momentum is slowing a bit. But still...I don't know what extra the flight attendants can get from CUPE other than the higher union dues. I have to preface this first: I am only presenting the facts as I understand them, I am not biased either way.
1. They are paid over the market median
2. They get allowances for meal cost replacement and dry cleaning
3. They get matched up to 20% gross for the employee share purchase
4. They get profit share
The only thing I think that they could benefit from would be seniority based bidding, but I think now with the base stuff they even have that. I think this is more about "sticking it" to WestJet than trying to improve their situation. Okay so maybe I'm a little biased.

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
Are they worried about layoffs with the 1:50 rule?
Re: Did you get your galley cart?
make great rolling tool carts for the price!
Re: Did you get your galley cart?
No. The company offered generous buy-outs and voluntary change to part time. Seems pretty generous to me.Donald wrote:Are they worried about layoffs with the 1:50 rule?

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
The disconnect is sad and unbelievable. The comments on WestNet from Campus people just make it seem it's us and them. To Front line employees it seems like Flight crews get a tax bill and Campus people get Beer Gardens.double-j wrote:I wouldn't dismiss another employee group nor would I beleve any 'heresay' about who got what. Re: Did you get your galley cart?
Well the parking was a "dropped ball" as it were. But its not like WJ walked away from the issue. They got CRA to only go back to 2011 as opposed to 2008 = WIN!!! After that you get stuck in a spiral of what ever WJ kicks into help out with the tax bill, it in reality compounds the issue by creating more taxable benefits. The best solution was the payroll loan so at least the interest was contained. Gregg's email was pretty good though.
Nobody is getting laid off
Just taking some of the goofyness off of WestNet cause I can't say F$@King there.

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
Are WJ employees getting hit with parking as a taxable benefit now too? or what is the parking issue?
Re: Did you get your galley cart?
Last I checked every airline employee is. At least WJ is offering assistance and paying half.

More info here:

Seems a really sleazy scam by CRA to squeeze more money out of hard working people. Why don't they go after all those tax evaders who apparently owe $80bn/year instead?

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
low hanging fruit. Its easier to shake down someone making 40K a year. Its not a airline thing, its for everybody. If you have a parking spot provided for you that costs money (ie normal people would have to pay) its a taxable benefit. My wife who works for a telecom company was saying CRA was looking at normal surface parking as well.
The government likes easy money, we cant afford to fight, so its easier to take it from us.

Going to make a great quick tool cart for the race shop
Re: Did you get your galley cart?
CRA is looking at everything...from hotel points, to bringing your kids on a maintenance flight. It's all a 'benefit' and easy money. Big companies don't want to fall into issues with CRA so they willingly provide the data. Pretty soon, if you work in a bakery and get to take home all the day-olds that will have to be declared as well....I can see it now on the T4; box 76 Donuts and Other, Box 79 Empty Cardboard Boxes et cetera...

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
its tax efficiency....and you would do it as well if you could...
in fact you can if you are interested I will tell you how
but you need the wjpa to convince your payroll peeps to be open to paying you offshore and man can you save some money.

Re: Did you get your galley cart?
bombardierfixer, do you know what a per diem is and why some people get them and some people don't?bombardierfixer wrote: 2. They get allowances for meal cost replacement and dry cleaning
All employees who travel for work can write off their meal expenses using actual receipts or the general formula of collecting (I'm not sure what the current money value is) X number of dollars per meal for every 4 hours away from base. Alternatively, the company can pay a per diem to the employee and then the company claims the tax write off.
This is not a perk, it is not a bonus of employment and it is not an extra. While those who work and live in the same city every day get to go home, buy groceries, cook and eat in their own houses... those who travel have no such ability to do any of those things. The per diems paid usually do not match the tax write off one could take. The dry cleaning allowance does not even come close to covering the cost of cleaning the dry clean only uniforms that are required to be worn for work. Would you be upset or feel that these employees are using a legal tax break is a perk?
I might be misreading your intent, so forgive me if I am but, a meal cost replacement is not a perk, it is an assistance to people who have no choice but to buy overpriced food while unable to eat in their own homes. If it were not paid by the company it would be recovered directly by the employee as a tax write off.
P. S. I only got long winded about this because I had seen/heard quite a few comments coming from the non-flight-line people that seem to feel this is some sort of perk... I'm not sure where that idea is originating from but it needs to stop.
