Rush Medical
Does anyone know if it's possible to put a rush on a Medical in order to receive it back from TC faster? (extra fee?)
If not, how long does it usually take to receive it in the mail from the date of the exam?
Thanks!

Re: Rush Medical
You mean, the sticker? I asked about this because I do my medicals overseas through ICAO accredited (not Transport Canada accredited) aeromedical examiners and have my paperwork done through Ottawa. Yes, it is possible; call them up and provide your justification. Despite all the criticism shelled out here on the Forum, Transport Canada people are actually quite decent and able to attend to reasonable requests. I assume it is because you are looking for a job overseas.
Re: Rush Medical
This is an initial application for a medical. I'm asking because I have a deadline to submit my medical to my school, and want to make sure I have it in time.
How long does it take most folks to receive their paper in the mail from TC?

Supposedly 60 days is "normal" but many people
see closer to 90 days.
PS I can't possibly be the only person to think of

We used to have students do a category 4 medical, essentially a self declaration that you are fit, at the same time as their cat 1, so they were covered until the cat 1 came in the mail. A cat 4 is all you need for a student pilot permit (or rec permit, IIRC).

Re: Rush Medical
TC gets pissed when you do that, and loves to overwrite
the "real" category 1 medical with the category 4 medical,
depending upon how the paperwork gets processed.

Re: Rush Medical
Pissed, or just incompetent? That is what a (self-cert) Category 4 medical is for, isn't it?

Re: Rush Medical
mine took closer to the 90 days and three attempts before it was correct
attempt number one was a phone call from TC because it had been returned to them in the mail. They'd missed off my apartment number
attempt number two had my street name inserted as my middle name
attempt number 3 was finally correct
to be fair when I called up to complain about attempt number 2, they got it out in the mail to me the next day

Re: Rush Medical
Does a Rush medical get closer to the heart than the standard medical?
Re: Rush Medical
Thanks AOW, for the tip about getting a Cat. 4.
TC seems to have conflicting information about the Cat. 4 though. Which is correct?
On this page: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/s ... en-477.htm
It says that only applicants for a Student Pilot Permit - Glider OR Ultra-Light Aeroplane may complete a medical declaration for a Cat 4.
It says that the self declaration is sufficient for a Student Pilot Permit - Aeroplane.

However, on this page: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/r ... htm#421_19Student Pilot Permit
Applicants who wish to obtain a Student Pilot Permit - Glider or Student Pilot Permit - Ultra-light Aeroplane may complete a medical declaration to meet the Category 4 medical standard. Individuals who are unable to complete the medical declaration and applicants for all other categories of Student Pilot Permits should contact a designated Civil Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME) to undergo a medical examination to determine their medical fitness for flying.
It says that the self declaration is sufficient for a Student Pilot Permit - Aeroplane.
(ii) An applicant for a Student Pilot Permit - Aeroplane category shall be in possession of one of the following:
(amended 2003/03/01; previous version)
(A) a Civil Aviation Medical Declaration (Form 26-0297) with Part B completed by the applicant and Part C completed by a physician licensed to practice in Canada,
(amended 2003/03/01; previous version)
(B) a Medical Certificate (Form 26-0055), Category 1, 3 or 4, or
(amended 2003/03/01; previous version)
(C) a Medical Assessment Letter (Form 26-0417), Category 1, 3 or 4.

Re: Rush Medical
to OP,
I had my multi-engine checkride one month ago, then multi-engine instrument (group 1) two weeks ago, with the examiner's signature in my booklet as a temporary license which is good for 90 days. Because of my circumstances I had to leave Canada for Asia, I requested faster processing of my stickers if possible from Transport. It was in the mail yesterday, so I received the sticker 20 days since the date of my checkride (compared to the usual 90 days). Although not medical related it is processed similarly.
I suggest Mrs. Sharon at the Hamilton office, she's very helpful.
Best of luck.
