Float kit Q

Post by Gurundu the Rat »

I just bought a Cessna 170B with a float kit with the intention of eventually getting floats for it. I noticed that even though it has a float kit, it doesn't have the V-brace. Is this V-brace optional? Was it normal in 1953 to put this puppy on floats without the V-brace? Also, if a float expert can enlighten me, Do I need C-170 rigging or is C-172 rigging the same? Thanks in advance.

The V Brace you mention is actually a Canadian invention.

'Porky' Wieben of Pickle Lake/ Wiebenville invented it to avoid the nasty tendancty of windows to jump out of their mounting. It would have been post 1953. I would have paid more attention but I was too busy being born around then.
