Seaplanes Africa
Frack! Why do I have to be married, have kids, responsibilities, and a decent job when cool jobs like this show up?

Anyone else find it bizarre that a job ad included a reference?

Re: Seaplanes Africa
Spoke to him today out of curiosity. Seems like a straight forward guy. Hoping to get operational by the end of the year. Sounds like permissions may take a while but has 3 destinations at the moment including a high end resort.
Not much protected water in the spots he was talking about so it might be challenging with a 206 to say the least. Hopefully the one who goes will have some experience and common sense.
$3K per month is the the pay as "that's what pilots in Africa make".
Hope it works out but it'll be an uphill battle as far as I can see.

Re: Seaplanes Africa
$3k/month for a 206 seems pretty reasonable, no? I'd bet that the cost of living is cheaper than Canada. I'm sure it'd be a fun gig for a year or so..
The way I see that is so that you can get an idea of what it's going to be like before you get there - then you're not wasting his time..Anyone else find it bizarre that a job ad included a reference?

Maybe for a first year guy but I don't think so for a 2000 hour 1000 floats guy. Surely that guy could demand much better money on a much better machine.North Shore wrote:$3k/month for a 206 seems pretty reasonable, no?
Re: Seaplanes Africa
Wheels 206 pilot would make around $500/month with less then 500 hours. $750 tIll 1000hrs. Then above that 1500 a month. Caravan drivers on average about 2500-3500 Housing and other allowances were included with the company I was at. It was pretty fair considering housing in Dar Es Salaam was kinda steep. As for Zanzibar, What a good life! Lots of italians to take your pick on.
I never went to Mnemba, but I know its the best of the best.

Re: Seaplanes Africa
It would be a cool place to fly around for a while. But Africa is not getting cheaper. 206 on floats is a non performer to start.. Working in that area with a higher temperature does not give you much performance. Did a short stint in Fiji on the same machine into little islands and reef protected areas. Bit of a challenge. Later purchased a beaver for the same operation. HUGE difference.
Would be a fun job for a year, but pay is a bit low.
