Not always about ticket price
We recently had our monthly meeting at Westjet. The attendees are Wj employees from all over Canada.
We asked the WJ employee from YYZ how the new ad campaign went over out East. He said it 'tanked'. He said the perception of WJ out East is that they are a joke. He said the ad campaign just confirms it. Also, he mentioned that the public also sees young and joking FA's and interprets the WHOLE airline as unprofessional. So that's part of the reason why WJ can't break into the Triangle.
Finally, he said the lowering of airfare prices out of YHM was seen as a slap in the face especially when you add the fuel surcharge to it.
I just kind of wished that the marketing department had done their homework before spending money on a big ad campaign that didn't hit the target audience.

personally, I think it's because people in the triangle has never heard of an airline besides aircanada... or they've been using aeroplan for so many years they're not interested in changing... Maybe there's too much capacity(by everyone) in the eastern triangle.
All I'm saying is that for you or anyone to say the marketing has 'tanked' in the east is more than a little premature. We're getting about 50% of our revenue out of YYZ, and increasing all the time, so I wouldn't worry about it all that much.

I don't understand---what kind of meeting was this? It sounds like an internal WestJet meeting, but you don't work for WestJet. Maybe I misunderstood your post.
I also question what you claim a WestJet employee said, but hey, it's the internet, and we all get to claim whatever we want as truth.

I object to the commercials not bringing ion guests! I have no seen YYZ busier and YUL wow incredible loads finally!
I to belive with the east coast mentality of a Air Canada product being the only way! I think it just takes soem time to change the piblics opinion on flying.
Especially with AiR Canada's Aeroplane getting worse and worse!
Just my 2 Cents
