SAR Mel Melissen Sep 1983 Smithers BN Islander C-GIPF
My good friend Mel disappeared on a flight between Campbell River and Smithers, BC;
on board were seven multi-millionaire fishermen/hunters from the US and Germany.
Though we searched for about 5 weeks, no trace was ever found.
It is now 30 years later and I just finished a long, detailed article about SAR Melissen.
Does anybody remember Mel?
Does anybody have any pics of Islander 'GIPF?
Thanks,
dirk septer

For Canuck10; I lived in Inuvik back in the seventies while they were building the Dempster Highway, and Mel was the bush pilot who picked up supplies in town and flew those supplies out to the construction camps. Mel was a very good guy, but a bit of a prankster. I have googled him occasionally for years to get more information on his disappearance. Inuvik lost really good guys like Pete Haas and Ted Wieggand and some other pilots and mechanics.
It has been many years, but you mentioned the grizzley on Wad and I was hoping to get coordinates or better location data for those. With global warming and Google Earth I thought I might spend some time looking for anything out of place in that area. Unlikely to spot anything, but I have some free time, and Mel deserves at least a brief look. Call me crazy, but miracles can happen. I am now in the Maritimes, but with Google Earth I can look anywhere. With it, if I can see the solar panels on my roof, I might be able to spot some debris on the other side of the country.
Cheers,
Longboat

Well my friend lost his brother in Tuk driving the Islander........ What Carl and Olaf got away with was criminal...... and lefty @ss judge gave him back his licenses. Because TC gave him a choice, get out or we prosecute.
