Hawker On Its Nose in Kenora
I had nothing to do with this. Haven't seen it yet, but I've seen pics. Taxied in and fell on its nose. I'm familiar with this scenario. Wonder if it was attached correctly. Mine wasn't.

"This side forward."
There's some more good pictures of the 1998 incident about 1/4 way down the page here

Terrible luck lately. Was 806 the one that rolled into the ditch earlier? Wonder if they're related.

One would have nothing to do with the other.Rudy wrote:Terrible luck lately. Was 806 the one that rolled into the ditch earlier? Wonder if they're related.
I had a very close look at the 1998 incident. Really close look. You might say "ringside seats", the front left one in fact. The entire nose gear fell off. In 1998. Not sure what caused this morning's mishap. In 1998, it was nonexistent maintenance. I guess that's what you'd call leaving enough parts on the work bench that an entire landing gear leg falls off? Hopefully, this was not the case here. But, in normal abuse, these things are pretty bloody tough.

807 (GMAA) rolled in the ditch, 806 (FFFS) went face down, ass up.

Sounds like "pilot error" to me!!!The entire nose gear fell off

Re: Hawker On Its Nose in Kenora
They were trying to point fingers till they found out which way the gear went, when it collapsed.Colonel Sanders wrote:Sounds like "pilot error" to me!!!The entire nose gear fell off

So what was that freighter doing in Kenora?
I had the other "ringside seat" for the '98 incident. I had no idea that some of the pics I took on that disposable camera are floating around the net! I still have the original pile around the house somewhere, but haven't seen them in years...

I remember your words well.."Shall we shut it down?"Elliot Moose wrote:So what was that freighter doing in Kenora?

This one just spontaneously retracted. Nobody hurt. No harm....except if they need an engine, the closest one is in New Zealand!
Still hunting swamp donkeys?

Well Doc couldn't see the dirt getting flung 100yds into the bush as the prop dug a hole in the frozen clay, so it seemed like a good CRM type suggestion at the time...
Too hard to get a tag for old rubber nose here in Alberta, so I hunt deer now

Towing incident. Tow bar slipped off or something when they were pushing it back.pelmet wrote:Why did the first one roll into the ditch?126.7Spam wrote:807 (GMAA) rolled in the ditch, 806 (FFFS) went face down, ass up.

Was there anyone in the cockpit riding the brakes?lownslow wrote:Towing incident. Tow bar slipped off or something when they were pushing it back.pelmet wrote:Why did the first one roll into the ditch?126.7Spam wrote:807 (GMAA) rolled in the ditch, 806 (FFFS) went face down, ass up.

Don't know for sure, I heard it third hand from a Hawker driver that wasn't involved with the incident.pelmet wrote:Was there anyone in the cockpit riding the brakes?lownslow wrote: Towing incident. Tow bar slipped off or something when they were pushing it back.

Re: Hawker On Its Nose in Kenora
From what I hear, nobody in the cockpit. This is not unusual. AC usually gets chocked while still connected to the mule. We tow our airplanes with nobody in them. In some airplanes, there can be no hydraulic pressure anyway, so a person riding the brakes wouldn't be of much help.lownslow wrote:Don't know for sure, I heard it third hand from a Hawker driver that wasn't involved with the incident.pelmet wrote:Was there anyone in the cockpit riding the brakes?lownslow wrote: Towing incident. Re: Hawker On Its Nose in Kenora
I believe that the 748 has a double acting emergency handpump to build up hydraulic pressure in the main system and brake system accumulators if the engines are not running. And there are non-return valves to isolate the brake system from the main system preventing pressure loss. Therefore a charged brake accumulator will provide 9 moderate brake applications. Even if only half this is available, it should allow stopping capability of an aircraft braking free of its towbar at a fairly low speed.Doc wrote:

Bet you that policy changes at this company.

It well may. Kind of doubt it though. Time will tell.pelmet wrote:

Re: Hawker On Its Nose in Kenora
I was there when that happened. Was loading up our plane when I heard it hit the ground. I just got back so I couldn't put these up until now.
They were pretty much parked and just doing a sharp turn when the nose wheel collapsed and hit the rhubarb! Both props hit the ground and one bent the prop so bad the engine kept spinning, even nose down on the ground, for a few minutes after shut down. Snapped some shots...

On my way back they had it up on it's wheels again.

Good pictures. What a bummer. I love the Hawkers.
Re: Hawker On Its Nose in Kenora
What is the little window for. The one right in front of the nosegear. I don't remember that.
