part time flying

How does the part time flying thing work and how many pilots are on it?

Not many and I believe you have to be close to retirement.
But you could accomplish the same thing by dropping some flying each month.

If you're able to get it picked up by anyone. It's been a challenge as of late, unless its 6+ hour 1 day.
I've had 3, 4 & 5 days to give away and none were picked up. It covers all months and includes & excludes long weekends & holidays. I haven't resorted to offering cash yet.

Right now you cannot get into the part time program as the number of pilots allowed into it is 6 (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe. Going forward, not sure.

Part time is likely changing with the new agreement. It'll be more of a transition to retirement plan. Limited to captains and will likely be limited to 10% of the pilot group.
