What is the holdup for a 4 minute flight with the gear and flap down? I assume it is going to Villeneuve AirportTom H wrote:No we are still trying to get through the TC process and I am very very worriedlinecrew wrote:Did the 737 get flown out yet?

Since our property line was determined by the City of Edmonton in July/August we have been working with a team of professionals from Canadian North (that are volunteering their personal time) to go through the Transport Canada process. This has included a huge document addressing all issues with the aircraft and how they are being addressed to make the flight safe.
Through this there have been a couple of meetings with the local TC reps to make sure all facets were being addressed. Now it is in the hands of Transport Canada in Ottawa.
All involved want to see the 737 get out and the flight planned is low speed, unpressurized, gear down and pinned.
But we are trying to get through a process I am told took 6-8 months back in 2005 (to bring it here from YEG) in basically 3 months.
As it stands we are waiting approvals for the single flight and the exemptions that revolve around the flight, but time is running out with only 10 days left to closure and 4-7days needed to do the servicing and checks before flying.
The guys from Canadian North have been fantastic, as has Canadian North but the serivice is expensive and pointless without having the oks out of Transport so there is no point in starting till ok'd.
As you can guess my nerves are shot as if it does not fly out the option is scrapping.

Re: YXD countdown has begun
Why not simply make sure that she's airworthy for the ferry flight, put some gas in, and let 'er rip?
Beg forgiveness from Transport later.
Besides, it's not like you're going to get ramp-checked..

If I'm following correctly that is just the official notice to airmen that as of the 39th it is closed.MrWings wrote:So it's closed now and not on the 30th?

Sorry you are frying your nerves Tom. It should NOT be that complicated and drawn out. Hopefully some sanity will prevail and get this ship out of Edmonton. It is not a space shuttle.

The damage to credibility and liability of the Museum became the issues and we cannot afford to place the Museum in that position as a not for profit charitable organization.

When will the PWA bird move? I would like to see that!

Pending Paperwork from Transport Canada...Prodriver wrote:When will the PWA bird move? I would like to see that!
- The aircraft will receive a "B" Check and extensive inspections
- Low and High Speed Taxi Tests
- Full control tests
- Final engine runs
Thanks to a team of Pros from Canadian North volunteering their time
A flight crew is selected
Then it will fly out to Villeneuve
We only have to 4:49 on the 30th so its very very touch and go as we are waiting on transport.
To say I'm sweating bullets is an understatement

Re: YXD countdown has begun
Well I sit here on the edge of history. 4:07 pm, awaiting the final flight out of the muni. I started 2 careers here, first as a pilot in 1990 as an air cadet getting his wings through the Edmonton Flying Club, then continuing on all the way through CPL and MIFR and Class 4 Instructor. After a 3.5 year career that included teaching in Dawson Creek, Port McNeill, and a 6 month stint out of Resolute Bay with Kenn Borek Air, I made the switch to ATC and guess what, CYXD was my first posting. 4 years working there before moving to CYEG, felt like a traitor, but saw the writing on the wall, and made the switch. You were a great mistriss, you'll be fondly rembered Muni!

Re: YXD countdown has begun
What an incredibly sad day. I started my career in 1979 with Gateway, then Northward, Time Air and North Cariboo. Left for a few years to work at Wardair and then returning to CAIL at the Muni for a short stint before Morningstar in 1997. So many wonderful memories...Convairs, HS748, Saunders, Shorts, Twin Otters, Beech 99 to bringing in the FedEx 727 for C checks at Spar. Lots of friends along the way. I would love to have been there yesterday for the departure of the B737 but my thoughts were right there (even heard the WJ 737 out of Comox around the right time!).
Not sure if I want to see what will happen to the field when they develop it. I'd rather remember it through the video from yesterday. Thank you to all the volunteers and especially to Tom for getting the job done. I vote Tom for Order of Canada.
Thanks YXD for some of the best memories of my life.

Well that's it, sad to see her go.
I'm glad I got to share some time with the airport, without a doubt one of my favourite airports to fly into.

Re: YXD countdown has begun
I spent yesterday thousands of miles away but none the less feeling sick as it sunk in that this had really come to pass. It was like knowing an innocent man had just been hanged.
Edmonton now exists to me only in memories and has for some time, I grew up there, I started by career there, I started a family there. But that place is gone now. After watching Quikair get fucked over I knew it was time to go and I have never regretted it. Hell, my wife just bought our son one of the new Flames jerseys for Christmas.
I hope Parkland and the EFC is successful in building a sanctuary to buffer our kind from the cruel whims of the City of Edmonton and the ERAA but I can't see anything recovering what existed before the final battle began.

Re: YXD countdown has begun
We flew in yesterday from Meadow Lake, Sk. Departed about 13:45 local time. Not sure but I may have been one of the last if not the last departure. How would I get this information?
If a pilot walked into a forest and had to make a decision, and no one from AVCANADA was there. Would the pilot still be wrong?
