HALIFAX - Chorus Aviation (TSX:CHR.B) has signed a deal to form a joint venture aimed at providing spare parts and components to regional airlines and maintenance, repair and overhaul companies.

The parent company of regional airline Jazz Aviation said Friday it has signed a letter of intent with U.S. company GA Telesis to create a dedicated regional aircraft support company.

The business will initially focus on support for the Q400, but plans to expand to other regional aircraft types.

The companies said they hope to sign a definitive agreement to establish the joint venture in the first quarter of next year.

Florida-based GA Telesis has sales, leasing, distribution, and maintenance facilities around the world with both commercial and defence customers.

"This collaboration leverages our unmatched experience in regional services and GA Telesis's leadership in inventory asset management to form a world-class service provider," Chorus chief executive Joseph Randell said in a statement.

"As we continue to evolve with the industry, we believe this venture will provide Chorus a solid platform for future expansion and diversification."

I've always thought that Chorus had a future in aircraft leasing, maintenance, dispatch and maybe ground handling.
If we're too expensive to do the flying we could at least do that.
