Air Spray wins BC contracts

Post by CLguy »

Heard Air Spray has been awarded the new FireBoss contract in BC. Should be some new jobs opening up there come spring.

What kind of requirements are they looking for? I'm sitting at 2kTT, 1.5k tailwheel, about 1k spraying, no Multi or IFR, a few hundred turbine Air Tractor, and 55 floats. Am I getting to the Air Spray, Conair, FPL level yet?

For these companies, is it company housing? Right now, I'm quite happy residing in Ontario and jumping back and forth between provinces for contracts.

Always apply even if you think you don't have the necessary time.

From a Conair perspective it is very unusual but not unprecedented, to be hired straight to the 802/Fireboss. The normal new hire position will be Birddog in a C 208/AC690 or FO on the CV580 which will require a MEIFR. Pretty much everybody hired has at least 500 ME PIC and an ATPL.

All that been said pilots with significant tailwheel time and Air Tractor time are getting rarer so I would suggest indicate your interest and keep applying as you get more time.

It's one thing I've been keeping in mind for the future. The opportunity to move somewhere else for pension and/or benefits is what draws me. Provided the pay scale is there, I wouldn't mind the jump over to bombing, or spraying at one of these companies. I've always kicked around the idea. I don't think it is entirely logical for me to ditch spraying for a low paying MIFR job though -- financial suicide. I might have to figure out a different way to build that elusive MIFR time. It doesn't matter what I fly, so long as it is interesting work for a good company and pay's well. The only reason to move now is for that retirement job. Thanks BPF.

What does something like that pay? Is it just a straight contract for the summer months or is there some hourly/duty pay factor?

Some places (Government gigs) pay a regular salary, year-round; others pay a base salary with some hours built-in, and then an hourly if you exceed those hours.. Don't have exact #s, but I'd imagine mid-to high 5 figures for a fireboss, after a few years.
