New GoPro
Just trying it out, suction cupped to the dash. Not the most stable surface. Had to edit it down to a manageable size to upload.

Re: New GoPro
That was fun. I wonder if there is a setting on the camera that enables you to reduce the prop lade effect.

I've never tried it (I don't even own a Gopro), but I've heard these work well. A cheaper solution might be finding a way to rig up an ND filter over the lens.

Re: New GoPro
Great video.
I've discovered that $10 at radio shack you can plug in to your intercom and record vox and ATC audio really well.
I think it's. 3.5mm jack, get a male/male cord and a converter to the normal head seat jack, and bobs your uncle.
I also stuck a mount to my strut, and it survived a 20 minute flight.

Not sure how to get rid of the prop effect, I think it's a frame record rate issue.
Instead of driving my girlfriend to work, I decided to fly! But you can hear the inexpensive cord/plug, and how it interacts with the recording.

Re: New GoPro
That's one of the really neat things about aviation. One can find friends all over the world, just need to find a place where people like airplanes.

Do you know any of the owners over at Indus? Any off chance the guy who owns the Canuck and Stampe?

I wrote this before but I'll repeat it.
I was driving around the rural Pyrenees looking for a castle near a small town. It was a gloomy day in light drizzle. I noticed a sign that said Aerodrome. So of course I drove to the grass strip. There was a building marked gliding club. There were about 8-12 cars parked there. I said to the wife. "That many cars, on a day like this? There's a bunch of French pilots in there eating, drinking wine and visiting. I'm going to go bother them." Sure enough a couple spoke a little honglaise and invited me in for a coffee. We tried to talk planes it was the only time I really regret not having better French skills.
One of the guys took me to the hanger. He told me him and a partner were building a cub elsewhere. I tried to say, "Oh they are nice small planes." He did not want me to think they were building a model.
They thought it was strange for a Canadian to be wandering around such a rural place on vacation.

That's Mr C.S. you're referring to I think. Same fellow who restored the Fokker. His son J. was flying the Canuck AFAIK. If we're talking about the same people.bmc wrote:Do you know any of the owners over at Indus? Any off chance the guy who owns the Canuck and Stampe?

You've never been to a flying club meeting, or worse, an airport management meeting then.Beef wrote:Airplane lovers tend to get along well provided they are not on the Internet.

I was actually thinking about that when I wrote it.Shiny Side Up wrote:You've never been to a flying club meeting, or worse, an airport management meeting then.Beef wrote:Airplane lovers tend to get along well provided they are not on the Internet.
Hope you're having a good week I'll be out to fly you around for my over due renter's check in 2014.
I might try writing PPL practice exams every couple of months to force myself to think about that sort of thing too.
Re: New GoPro
CS and I are very close long time friends. I spent a bit of time in the Waco and I filmed his unintentional lift off of the Fokker while doing high speed taxi. If you bump into him, say hello from Brian in Switzerland. I owe him an email. Have you seen his latest restoration? Its all painted and close to being ready for assembly and flying next year. It looks really sharp. I could be wrong but it may be the only of its type airworthy.Shiny Side Up wrote:That's Mr C.S. you're referring to I think. Same fellow who restored the Fokker. Re: New GoPro
There seems to be a perpetual NOTAM in place that says the surfaces are closed. Never really figured out what that's about, though one often sees pylons on it and cars doing driver training.
Anyhow, hope everyone else is also going to have a good new years.

Shiny....I just picked up the phone and called CS. We talk by email but hadn't talked in a long long time. It was really nice. He tells me J is building a One Design. What an airplane family.

Re: New GoPro
He should have a busy year since he was roped int.. I mean elected as president of the local EAA chapter. Might chat with him if I make the next meeting. In the whole small world thing I used to go to school with one of his nieces, met him in the aviation world a while ago when the Fokker was still flying.
Indeed. That's J's second project if I remember. His RV is sure a sweet little number. CS's brother also has a nice little airstrip up north of here with another father/son flying team. What an airplane family.

Terrorizing the circuit. Apparently I must be Italian because I don't seem to be able to talk without my hands. Student flying the airplane, working on staying off that tailwheel and staying on the centerline.

Very nice tail-low wheel landings!

Boo... apparently the video has been blocked in my country (Canada) due to copyrighted content?
