Flights canceled due to temperature

According to Nav Canada the min. ambient temperature reached was -37.8. I know the min temp for take off for the crj is -40. Expressjet is operating the erj145, anyone know if it has the same min. temperature?

The info I found was minimum APU start temp is -54C for the EMB145. If the APU is started using batteries then the limit is -20C. I could not find the data for minimum take off temp.

The EMB170/175 however has a limit for -40C for take off (-54C for operation). Perhaps the limit for take off is the same for both the 145 and 170/175 (even thought they have different engines)

The Dash 8's (all series) have a -54C limit (Airplane minimum operating ambient temperature limit is −54 C). Whereas (as you mentioned) all the CRJ series have a-40C limit for take off.

Boeing talks about "Minimum tank fuel temperature: 3°C above freezing point of gas or -43°C, whichever is higher" and then for engine start procedures it says to

"Do the normal Engine Start Procedure with following modifications: In case of temperatures below -40°C do not start engines. Call maintenance."

For Airbus the only info I could find was -36C as a limit for fuel (tank) temperature.

Freezing point of Jet A is −40 °C (−40 °F) and Jet A-1 is −47 °C (−53 °F). Jet B is −60 °C (−76 °F).

Winnipeg didn't seem to be that bad for temperature.

A330 minimum TAT -53C between -2000 and 6000 FT PA.

The -36C you talk about is the threshold for the ECAM fuel temp caution in inner tanks on the A330 (in fact, it's <-37C), or are you talking A319/320 model?

when jazz was operating the rj's in to yellowknife, i seem to remember that -40 was a no go temp. i believe it had something to do with the flaps.... i'm sure someone on here can verify this.

Yes I was referring to the 319/320/321 inner fuel tank temp. And I see there are differences in minimum temps between engines, inner and outer tanks, and between other models (330 340-200/300 and 340-500/600).

Also remember that most Type 1 out there has a LOUT of -32/-33. So, if it was -37 with active frost conditions.. you wouldn't really be able to depart after you landed.

There have been many cancellations at other airports because of OAT being less than LOUT.
