Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Quite simply without opening a can of worms with Encore...
It's because 41% of you votes YES to concessions in record profit times.
You idiots think you stand a chance any other time than this to IMPROVE your Wages and Working Conditions?
Stop being mushrooms and stop bringing down the industry on a national scale.
Sorry had to say what everyone else is thinking.
Atleast the Air Canada boys fought hard until the government ruined it for them.

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Skyregional existence was against the Air Canada pilots wishes.
It first started over a poll not a vote.
It then grew due to govt intervention not allowing the pilots to bargain.
WJ has been bringing down this industry since they started.
Not 1% of the pilots should've votes yes. Shows how stupid he pilot group is.
This is why an apprentice with no qualifications in a trade makes more than ATPL pilots.

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Just to add to you remarks, AC pilots didn't fight hard at all. This was explained to me one time by an AC pilot. The MEC actually went too far and asked WAY too much and the arbitrator was almost forced to side with the company. It's like asking 20g's for a car thats worth only 6g's. If the MEC went after what the pilots wanted plus a wee bit more then there would have been a lot better chance of the arbitrator siding with the MEC.EatSleepFly wrote:Quite simply without opening a can of worms with Encore...

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
I don't know if idiots is the right word for the group who voted yes. Perhaps scared new hires, big tin dreamers, and " had the profit share blinders on" would be a more flattering description? Anyways, nothing new here, pilots have been selling out pilots since Orville used a 2 sided coin.
Good luck to the wj'ers and may you get the management you deserve

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
That's because everyone is too busy bashing Encore. Six months down the road, we'll stop picking on Encore, and start picking on Georgian/Regional1 for being another nail in Jazz's coffin. Last summer everyone was labelling people accepting jobs at AC as traitors who should say no to the job. We have the attention span and follow through ofWacko wrote:Agreed.. but keep min mind Sky Regional was the catalyst to all this greatness.. haven't heard much about them on here as of late.
Oh, look a squirrel.
Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Been in the airline business for 33 years. During that, all I have heard is AC pilots whining and blaming everybody for their hard done by existence. You're cry babies. Get over yourselves.
I don't work for WJ. Never actually flew them.

The 41 per cent have the team, the contract and the union/association they deserve.
Unfortunately, the result is an ugly scab on the industry. A scab that will be
picked at for many many years...

I see SkyRegional has a direct entry job ad for type rated Captains posted up here... Hopefully that continues to gather dust.Wacko wrote:Agreed.. but keep min mind Sky Regional was the catalyst to all this greatness.. haven't heard much about them on here as of late.EatSleepFly wrote:Quite simply without opening a can of worms with Encore...

Lol there is only one "idiot" on here and its not the WJ pilots.
Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Well, an ENCORE pilot may apply because that would mean a pay raisesstaurus wrote: I see SkyRegional has a direct entry job ad for type rated Captains posted up here... Hopefully that continues to gather dust.
Seriously, send them a response and tell them to offer Porter/Jazz pay scale and then perhaps they will attract possible applicants. Skyregional is the anchor that will weigh down pilot pay rates for everybody flying aircraft 75 seats and under. The quickest way to remedy that situation is to STOP APPLYING!

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Just to add, we(the travelling public) share the blame as we expect, even demand airfares as an example YYZ - YYT be the same as a cab fare from Pearson to downtown Toronto........
Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
The only group to blame is the pilot group for allowing such a differential between supply and demand of labour.
Why should the airlines and the traveling public pay more when they can get the same product for less?

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
I would not call them stupid, just a bit naive.
They saw the good times at Westjet by great leaders
who had integrity. The company has now been
inviltrated by corporate sharks that hoard profits
for management. The pilots of Westjet have had
a generous run and has not gone unnoticed
by Greg and the boys. Smart people are on this for the
Westjet pilots, stay tuned.
P.S. I work for the other major airline in Canada.

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
I think that part of the "renumeration" for many of the pilots who join Encore is the opportunity to work at mainline WJ. After all, it is a continuously growing company that is potentially beginning to experiment with intercontinental flying.
These Encore pilots value this because most other regional & mainline companies/unions are choosing to be acrimonious toward each other (sky/jazz/AC).

Eatsleepfly...
I get that what we do effects everyone and so on, but you're missing the point that we voted no. Yes 41% voted in favour but it didn't pass.
Also since you're so convinced were dragging the industry down what did you earn last year? My base salary without any OT, ESP, profit share, options is $96000 as an fo. My T4 was well over that. Yes it sounds like I'm bragging, I'm not. We're not the highest paid pilots in the country but we're not dragging it down either. This place isn't perfect but it's pretty damn close.
Don't like it don't apply.

You're bragging? Yikes. That's still too low KAG.
Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Hey KAG just wondering how long you have been at westjet?
Help guys to understand how long you are in the right seat and also how long it takes to get to a base gross pay of 96k

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
I've been here over 6 years. Your looking at a decade or more for an upgrade now (and that's a guess). I know 3 year fo's that have made in excess of 100k but that's t4 so it factors in everything. I myself made 135k but again that's all in (very little ot).
What is hard to quantify is the lifestyle. In the AC world my 6 years wouldn't get me the days off I request, my routes I fly (high credit single days) or Christmas off (I've been lucky the past few years).
My AC counterparts make more money there is no question but I'd stack my lifestyle against anyone's with only 6 years in.
It's honestly an awesome place to work, and if your inclined you can make a small fortune in extra flying.
To each their own.

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
Spot on KAG.
To each their own.
Off to AC for the big bucks and the big iron one day if that is what you want. Seniority will decide your lifestyle.
Little WS is great especially if you don't commute. Pick your days off and have some control over lifestyle. Work lots or work little - whatever floats your boat.
It's a great job that has mostly over-delivered on their promises.

Re: Why WJ Pilots lost all my respect
I'll third that motion by KAG. Been at WJ for roughly the same time KAG. Living the life I always dreamed about! Making the extra money when I want and taking the extra time off for lifestyle when I want. Life's a balance and it's really easy to do that at WJ. And probably the best thing about this company is that if there's a problem it'll get solved.
