this ought to stir the pot.
You said, The problem with this lousy industry is that there aren't enough women in it. Perhaps with some more femininity the whole process would be more civilized
Ever worked in an office full of women? If you have, you know what I mean. Ever been chewed out by a woman because she's PMSing? Ever been fucked over by some woman who bats her eyes and shoves her tits in the chief pilots face and back stabs everyone around her to get ahead? This is not to say guys don't back stab, but women can be malicious.
Who cares if Navair doens't hire women. Don't apply there. Apply somewhere else.
Scabber, how can you even talk being a f8cking regency pilot? Boo hoo, they took advantage of you, did they also hold a gun to your head to make you work there, NO. Everyone knows they take advantage of their pilots, but you CHOSE to work there, or should I say volunteer. I have never met one Navair guy that puts down his company, in fact, of all the ones I have met they all liked it and have moved on to bigger and better things. Maybe there are some pilots that fly unconventionally, but I can tell you it happens every where. Try flying up in northern alberta, saskatchewan and the manitoba area. I have seen king airs and navajos in formation, 1900's skimming the tree tops. They must all be dangerous Nav Air types. Give me a break! I am by no means saying this is right. Sure Navair might have a reputation, but thats because they are always under the spotlight and every mistake they make gets so much attention. I would love to fly freight and get to fly like they do, no passengers would be great!

I find the jg incident fairly funny given nothing serious came out of it. The go around was a pretty balsy thing to do as they should have figured with all the rwy & taxi way signs being mowed down and the gear taking a pounding that they were no longer on pavement, whatever. As regards AC, when they piled up the rj in Fredricton in the fog (or wherever it was, who cares?) they made short work of covering their tracks, at least imho, that was the case. AC is far from perfect, I make no excuses for their actions.DA900 wrote:swede do you have some kind of hard on for that jetsgo crew? You already posted a smart-ass comment about them on page 1 now incase anyone forgot you do it again.
We get it you did not approve of the go around even though you don't have any facts on their reason or decision to do so.
Maybe you can slam the Air Canada crew who crashed the DC-8 when the FO put out the spoilers. I can only guess you have insight on that too.
Let the slagging commence..
I'm givin er all she's got..
Going off the end or side of a runway is not all that uncommon. Calgary has High Intensity Runway Operations in effect at peak traffic hours which says don't loiter on the runway and clear intersections quickly. It can be difficult to judge distances when landing long like that. Many airplanes have gone off the end doing dumb things like that, so it is not an exclusive "NavAir thing" they are moving their freight terminal to the east side July 4 so now the problem is going to be leaving the gear on the lip of the button of 25.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Almost every busy airport has had someone go off the end or the side of a runway. Ususally happens when someone tries to land long and clear at the end. Calgary had a Cessna 150 go off the end of the 12,000+ ft Runway 34.

Calgary is no different than any other airport in Canada or the USA. There are 2 kinds of pilots - those that have and those that are going to. Pilots will run airplanes off the end or the sideof runways, no matter what. Calgary has high intensity runway operations in effect at peak traffic periods which means exiting the runway as quickly as possible. Someone just got carried away. That is why they invented the cleared area off the end. At least they did not have an airplane shredder like they did off the end of 16.

gocariboo...got an axe to grind have we? Or perhaps you are an ex NavAir employee - actually, you must be to have such an insight into the company and the types of guys that work there. Gods gift to aviation? No fancy uniforms or top gun aircraft, just a decent bunch of guys working hard and trying to get ahead. Everyone has to get their break somewhere. We all make mistakes and in companies at this level its a huge learning curve. Its all too easy to come on here, take a high and mighty stand (such as you do) and bitch slap guys. As somebody said earlier, this embittered industry eats its young....Navair is extremly dangerous and unsafe. Not only is it the shitty planes, but the over confident pilots. For some reason these guys feel that they are gods gift to aviation. Its when, not if, these guys pack one in again, and again and again.

To answer swede's question, MacNight boulavard passes by the south end of Runway 16/34 and it is a busy street. Many years ago, someone got the bright idea to put a large concrete barrier beside the street, just off airport property so they built this huge, wide, low steel reinforced concrete sign, advertising the Calgary International Airport. It was off airport property and below runway elevation but it lined up perfectly with the centerline of the runway. Locals called it the airplane shredder because it would certainly inflict damage to any small aircraft the overran rwy 16 or landed short on 34. Whether it would stop larger airplanes from skidding onto MacNight is debateable. It is gone now. It was a dumb idea.
