Email went out to the pool today. Course of at least 10 pilots has been confirmed for February, starting either second or third week of the month. No news on a March course yet but they are hoping to know more in the new year.

Things are still slowly grinding along.

That's great news for those patiently waiting in the pool! Hopefully they reopen the app window soon.

I don't know anything about bases, ground schools, pools, etc. but I did hear that the next bid (first week of February) will be big. Just an unsubstantiated rumour so far though.

So just to be clear, when applying to AC these days, (if the app ever opens again) you have an equal chance of just being put in Rouge? Or are they two separate entities to apply to?

One interview to become Air Canada pilots, who now fly the aircraft at Rouge as well. But you can pretty much bet on starting your career at the LCC.

These might offer some clarity on the aircraft Rouge will be operating this year.

I interviewed in June 2011 and got the 6 month letter. Last week I received this email. Anyone else get something like this? and what was the outcome?

Following an initial review of your file, we have decided to contact you to see if you are still interested in employment with Air Canada. If so, your file will need to be reviewed by the Hiring Board. If you are interested, please reply to this email providing me with the following documentation:
An updated resume
A copy of your aviation booklet cover (the page with the large photo and expiry date)
A copy of your current instrument rating
A copy of your current medical
A copy of your passport
A copy of your radio license
Any reference information you wish to provide
I will add these documents to your file and have your file reviewed as soon as possible. Pending the review of your file, I will contact you with further information.

Thanks in advance.

I have never been clear on this fact/rumor, but is it true that if you go to ROUGE, you have no chance of ever coming back to mainline? And that if you go to mainline and get pushed to rouge, you have a spot at mainline?

All of the above applied for initial hires obviously.

Thanks!

loopa,

Not sure where you heard this but its false kind of. Your hired as an Air Canada pilot, when you start you course your given a number and your class will be told what equipment is available to bid on, Mainline aircraft or Rouge aircraft or both. As of now most all positions are Rouge because this is where the growth is. When your awarded your position as a new hire your frozen in this position for 4 years unless it don't require training (rouge 319 to mainline 320 your not frozen, rouge 767 to Mainline 767 not frozen for 4 years) according to new contract. But this is at companies discretion as well.

We have an equipment bid every 2 months if your number can hold mainline then you can go, or if your mainline you can bid Rouge if you wish. The only other "freeze" is bidding from Rouge to Mainline you can't bid back to Rouge for 2 years.

And yes if you get pushed to Rouge you have reinstatement rights back to your former position at mainline. And if you choose to use your reinstatement right you go back to your former equipment before anyone else.

Cheers

Another pool update via email.

Feb. 17th PIT course has been filled with 10 new hires.
There will be a PIT course starting Mar 3rd of at least 10 new hires.
Also, they are saying an April PIT course of some size is looking likely.

New pilot bid on Feb 4th should hopefully give us poolies an idea if this hiring will continue!

They've only hired 20 pilots since last summer, so lots left in the pool.

There will still be over 50 after the Feb group.

49 Vacancies all in YYZ, it closes in a week but openings for new hires look likely for rouge 767/ 319 FO's and 787 RP's.
