Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
Well it seems to generate lots of chatter on the this website. In an industry where less and less people are participating. Can it soo bad to introduce new people to aviation.

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
Gentlemen I think we can all agree that we are just sore that we didn't all think of filming all the stupid crap we do around airports and selling it to Discovery for a nice pay cheque if its picked up. If you watched the first 3 or 4 episodes of Airplane Repo it was more of a documentary and legit behind the scenes look into their world. Then they got the narrator from cold crab fisherman Alaska or whatever its called and the producer of repo wars and jazzed it up with a bunch of pilots turned actors.
The broke and dumb gold diggers show or whatever its called is prime example of this, the main crew finds zero gold or very little year after year and yet they roll out with all this brand new equipment each season how? you ask, the Hoffman Dad and Son get paid 1 mil a season. These schmucks use to run an airport in Oregon and needed cash (Aviation related go figure eh!) they shot a pilot of them pushing dirt around in their back yard and pitched it to Discovery look it up true story.
Now for the big dirty, I need a few people to lend me their planes for a behind the scenes of my soon to be smash hit sensation "Working title Airplane show type deal" I will pretend to smuggle dope around in small aircraft and have a camera crew follow me. Ill walk by stoned ramp guys at every airport and get them to help me lug huge hockey bags out of a 206 into the back of pick up trucks with not a stick to be seen. Well I suppose that also describers flying in the oil patch but I digress of course this will all be shot in night vision and will add in the sounds of props winding up as a Citation starts and narrowly escape a capture while holding short # 4 for take off.
Stay tooned for the northern bootlegger episode where I will get my brother to pick up the booze on his snow machine and then have the Buffalo Cabs pursue him into the woods while I fly low down a river for no apparent reason. Whos with me ? maybe we can get one of those crowd sourcing deals going to create a buzz, and then say screw it and have a giant piss up ?

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
I would watch the above show haha.
What I don't like is that all these shows are "reality" shows. I watch Dangerous Flights/Ice Pilots/Yukon Gold...etc, as entertainment. But they're called reality shows and give people a false impression of what all these insdustries are like. It's funny how so many of these shows show people doing illegal stuff on camera and filming them "barely getting away", when the whole thing is on film and on TV so if it were real, they would be in jail.
Anyway, they're jsut entertainment, I just wish they weren't called reality shows. They're all theatre.

With this week's arrival in Kenya, it might have been nice to acknowledge the crash that claimed two lifes while filming the show.

Sad indeed, but...it happened almost a year ago. John Drifmier and Kenyan wildlife conservationist died in an Ukrainian built ultralight crash on Mt. Kenya in February 2013.

This week on Northern Bootlegger old but relatively inexperienced first officer Pop n Fresh nervous about the opportunity of doing his first, nudest colony low and over with the boss.
Captain .. assures him, "Just like jumping over your buddies on your bike, as a kid. Just do it a little higher and faster."

Huh these guys really think there something else landing a van in the alps Maybe they should watch a little ytube and look up DHC 5 buffalo prairie creek, we went in with 18000 and out all the time, God bless GE. & Hamilton standard. Borek probably has the best short landing, ytube DHC 6 Marys river. The best short take off is ytube Buffalo Stol take off, Roche bay NU after we had the nose gear collapse after it broke thru the ice. Ice rotten, nose gear down and welded, 5000 lbs gear, 12 barrels of fuel in the wings, 200 ft takeoff GE/Hamilton standard saved the day

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
Prairie Creek has an interesting approach, never been there myself but I saw videos and pics of the arroach, the Buffalo guys have balls of steel going in there, but as far as I remember going out of there the payload was limited, something like 14 000. At least I remember them having to check the charts for may payload out of there whenever a customer needed a quote.
Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
You have to remember aviation shows are not made to appeal to pilots but to non-pilots. There just aren't enough of us to matter. That being said if you were in charge of Dangerous Flights how would you film it? Just have one pilot in the cockpit not saying anything for hours on end? They have to have something to film otherwise there wouldn't be a show. Even though I'm constantly rolling my eyes at the over dramatization of every little thing "They were forced to fly IN THE DARK!" I still like the show.
Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
You have to add in the trailer park boys to this new show of yours.... Can you imagine Bubbles' flight goggles!!Gentlemen I think we can all agree that we are just sore that we didn't all think of filming all the stupid crap we do around airports and selling it to Discovery for a nice pay cheque if its picked up. One series that I really like is "Flying Wild Alaska".
Ariel Tweeto (although she can be a little ditsy at times) is a little cutie.

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
Unfortunately for one of the pilots on this show there is something more dangerous than crossing the ocean in a 172. Take a look and help a brother out if you can.

I pitched a spin off to build on the Dangerous flights franchise to the Discovery Channel. It was titled "Dangerous Flying, Extreme PPL flight Instruction ", I am still waiting for word back....I guess they were so excited they forgot to reply.......

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
I was actually going to start a thread about the Dangerous Flights show, but now I won't have to.
My question to those who are more in the know is, what exactly is it about the show that is most fake/misleading/frustrating ? Is it that the scenarios are manipulated or is it that the drama is fake ? I was going to ask if the show glorifies these guys for doing really stupid things. As a total novice, the guys in the show are constantly doing things that sound more "foolhardy" than dangerous.
Do any of the experienced pilots here take any of the alleged risks these guys do with any sort of regularity ?

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
It is no different from anything else on TV. If you enjoy it watch.
One episode they were moving a light twin with a broken heater. They claimed the pilots were "in danger of freezing their feet." Ok fair enough. Then they were on the ramp talking about how bad the weather was. Light jackets, no gloves, hats and summer shoes. "Life or death!"

Not a lot about who owns it...just shows a numbered company from BC

Re: Dangerous Flights Season 2
Anyone ever see the show The Aviators on PBS? I guess this season 4 or 5 already but I just noticed it a couple of months ago. It is produced in Canada. Some of the how-to's are pretty basic but probably interesting for non-aviation people. They've had some good aircraft and airshow segments.
Dangerous Flights is like all "reality" shows now like Pawn Stars. Very scripted and contrived. Makes it hard to watch.

For those of you unable to watch the full episodes on TV, Pixcom Productions have put the episodes on their website:

Thanks. My point is the aircraft is not part of the North Cariboo fleet. I know who DW is...turbo-prop wrote:Dan Wuthrich is minority owner of Cariboo.whiteguy wrote:It's not North Cariboo, it's the numbered company as stated above.Tacoma wrote:North Cariboo
