Algerian state radio says a military transport plane has crashed in the east of the country killing all 99 aboard.

The plane was flying Tuesday from the southern city of Ouargla to the town of Oum El Bouaghi, 350 kilometres east of Algiers. Witnesses in the area say it clipped a mountain and then crashed.

Another report from the region put the death toll at 103, adding that the plane was carrying relatives of military personnel.

Authorities have yet to release a statement on the crash, and no official death toll was immediately available.

"Unfavorable weather conditions and storms accompanied by snow in the region were behind the crash," the ministry said in a statement.

Winds in the area were 17 knots gusting to 28 knots with a visibility of eight kilometres at the time, according to the aviation-safety.net website.

That is what they consider unfavorable weather ?? And they blame that for the crash, okay.

Hard to believe one person survived looking at the wreckage.
