Bi Planes in Alberta????
Good morning all
August 4th is the 100th Anniversary of the start of the First World War and the Museum is working on hosting a Bi Plane Fly In at the Villeneuve Airport to mark the occasion.
But it needs to be more than a regular fly in (though that will be part of it) to reflect the importance of the anniversary and the contributions of those that served. It also needs to be a way to get the public to appreciate the technology of the time so........
I am curious as to who has Bi Planes in range of the Villeneuve airport that would be willing to come in August?
Does not matter what type, the goal being to give an impression of the challenges First World War Pilots faced and the type of structures and technology that went into the First World War aircraft.
If there are enough we will step to the next phase of planning and intent on including a select of events for all aircraft attending and making a big deal of the weekend...sort of a fun for all and all for fun while stepping up to recognize this 100th anniversary.
Thoughts, ideas, information....

I'm sure you'll find someone out there that is also bi-curious and willing to come in August.Tom H wrote: I am curious as to who has Bi Planes in range of the Villeneuve airport that would be willing to come in August?

There's a sexy Stearman in Lacombe that I know of, always looks for flyins

Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from the little things; knows not the livid loneliness of fear, nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear the sound of wings.

Pitts Special here. In range of Villeneuve. Aug 4th is a Monday though, which makes it a bit tough.
Re: Bi Planes in Alberta????
Civic Holiday Monday though, which hopefully you get to partake in..
Re: Bi Planes in Alberta????
If I'm home I could see myself taking a Stearman up there, especially if I get around to putting a transponder in it.
Nothing holds like a good, tight crossthread.

Thanks everyone
If you can spread the word so we can see if there is enough interest it would be great.
Folks could just respond to this thread
As far as the date...think of it as the August 4 weekend as we want to make sure folks have travel time and a lot of fun

Tom, it sounds like a great event, I hope I can be there. You might want to put something about it in the COPA paper and spread the word via as many flying clubs as you can.
In my area alone we have 3 Stearmans, 2 Pitts, a Skybolt, a Starduster, a Tiger Moth and a Beech Staggerwing.

Looks like there is enough in the way of interest and airframes that we are proceeding with the project.
Will post details as they are finalized
