Been reading Wings of the North by Dick Turner (http://www.amazon.ca/Wings-north-Dick-T ... 0888390602) Amazing book by the way!
I could never afford a good utilitarian airplane, but think there is still that sort of "buy and airplane, go up north for work" opportunity?
What made small airplanes so expensive now a days anyways vs back then? Prices have grown way above inflation rate.

What?! You can get a used PA-28 for $20k.
Costs more than that, just to overhaul the engine.
Not sure if you care or not, but the prices for
certified aircraft parts - for a bunch of reasons
including low volume, paperwork and liability -
are just insane.
Try a stall warning switch for $2,000.

Used aircraft are ridiculously cheap. I'm surprised
more people don't buy them to part out.

Maybe this should be titled: "Buy a Plane, Going North, Flying for Food!"
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......
