Float gig this year
Hi all,
Just read allot of old posts about road trips etc, I am new to the country and a float driver with a little under 2000tt and 600 float, 350hrs DHC2, 200hrs C208 and a little C182 time. I'm late thirties and have no plans to leave GA so looking for good operators to hopefully do year round floats/wheels/skis or a regular summer job in the end.
Is this enough time to arrange a job over the phone normally or take a big drive which I am happy to do, and does any one know about the hrs required by the Yukon operators. Before someone tells me to, yes I will ring them but I am still abroad right now so skype is very slow. And if I am lucky and get a Beaver job, what is the excepted pay for a a seasonal driver, I will not take any deal handed to me as I have met enough bad paying cowboys so far in my career.
Looking forward to finally making the permanent move to CA with my Canadian wife after a few visits to your beautiful country.
Thanks

Re: Float gig this year
Anyone offer any advice, I would be most appreciative. I certainly have helped a few Canadians out whilst in my part of the world and trying to find their feet.
Re: Float gig this year
Seems to be a slow season. See the post about 2014 floats. Beaver jobs can pay anywhere from $3500 to $6000 a month. Accommodations and or meals may or may not be included.
Your time should be good to grab a beaver job.
Good luck!!

What little I do know is either not important or I've forgotten it!

Be prepared to work! Canadian float flying isn't for the fair hearted. Most guys abandon the idea after a couple of winters on employment insurance. But it is the greatest flying your ever going to experience. Have you converted all the licenses yet???
best of luck

Getting a Canadian phone number to put on your resume and/or to actual call them might help: http://www.callcentric.com/
It works perfectly and is quite cheap.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Thanks for the replies guys, no I have not converted just yet, getting held up abroad, things out of my control. Definitely prepared to work really hard, should arrive in to Vancouver in a month, not the plan but out of my control so really my license could be a long way away! However if it means I can go meet some operators and do a bit of fly fishing and maybe get a gig on floats or wheels if I get very lucky.
I'm a bit older than the average guy and a career GA pilot, some times I wonder why! but after all the BS I have dealt with and no doubt will in the future I like the flying, my own worst enemy.
look forward to getting the license, meeting a few guys having a few beers and just seeing what happens.
