So I'm a 300 hour CPL, Multi-IFR rated guy and I'm wondering if anyone can offer some insight on North Cariboo Air. Particularly about ramping to a plane. I know their mins online say for a king air FO is 500 TT. 250 multi time. I'm going to spend another say 80k to get that multi time lol. If anyone knows anything about NCA, what kind of place it is etc and especially that ramping to get a plane it would be appreciated

Be prepared to sit on the ramp for a LONG time (2-3 years), other than that I've heard they treat you great.

At least these 2-3 years on the ramp you will make MORE than an FO.

This is my most stupid quote of the day!HighDreams wrote: I'm going to spend another say 80k to get that multi time
I have a better suggestion... Why not set your sights a little more appropriate for your actual lack of any real experience... And find a job flying light singles or if you are extremely lucky a light twin. Then you get your experience and work your way into a turbine job. I can tell you no one (not even the shady operators) will touch you with your experience for a multi turbine position (let alone NCA)
Buying your time will do nothing for you other then make some really good friends with the air school who will encourage you and bend you over the barrel at the same time.
Getting a job has just as much to do with your attitude and ability to work in a team and start learning... Cause right now you pretty much know nothing and are ready to begin your REAL training.
A 200-300 hour pilot is a hazard but with some mentoring and real guidance with your first job you will be in good shape. Not a place for someone jumping directly into 2 crew complex aircraft.
You need to think about upgrade also... No company wants just FO's... They want Captains in training. So with your experience there is 0 chance you will ever get upgraded.
Set your sights more realistic... It is not about the quantity in your book but the quality also.
Re: North Cariboo Air
Who does 80 k of multi time?? What the hell.
Even if I would have the money I wouldn't for my personal selfesteem.

Ok guys that was clearly a typo sheesh x_x Seriously be realistic here. Obviously was trying to say "I'm not going to spemd another 80k". And for the most part here I was really just looking for some particulars that people had on a particular company. Kinda like what the first two said lol.

If you're gonna ramp, do it at Buffalo and become a teevee star.

If you're gonna ramp, do it at Buffalo and .........learn some work ethic and actual operating knowledge.
My experience with the Cariboo rampies in AB is that they are lazy with no real professionalism. To me they seem like they are just waiting for there spot in the right seat of a king air with doing as little as possible.

Re: North Cariboo Air
Did somebody say go to XYZ airlines to learn or somehow obtain "work ethic"? News flash folks work ethic is something that you should have long before you show up to your first job. It's instilled at home, not something one should expect an employer to teach... yikes its no longer "what is the world coming too" its here and its sad.

Well, Richie Rich plans on spending say another 80k on his/her experience then my assumption was that his / her last chance on gaining some real world work ethic and knowledge would be to get it an operator up North

If you're going to work the ramp for NCA, do it in Ft St John. That way when you get into a machine you have a chance at advancing. YYC and YEG are career dead ends unless you have Contrails multi PIC time.
Re: North Cariboo Air
I wouldn't call it a "career dead end" but it does move a bit slower than other carriers. If you can stick it out, it's worth it. Started the ramp myself and advanced all the way through to left seat Dash, now moving on. No regrets. Great company and great people. Been a great career at Cariboo!co-joe wrote:If you're going to work the ramp for NCA, do it in Ft St John. That way when you get into a machine you have a chance at advancing. Oh and Fort St. John......1 King Air 200 there and everyone in YYC and YEG is ahead of you in line anyway. No advantage to working the ramp there....

Not sure.. why is it a career dead end if the company is willing, and does, move low time guys into the right seat? Doesn't Perimeter also hire their FO's internally, most with low time, minus the contrail requirements? I assume there are ways to get multi-pic, starting from the ramp, given what Whiteguy has said?

My experience was the opposite, but I only worked there for 5 years...gianthammer wrote:If you're gonna ramp, do it at Buffalo and .........learn some work ethic and actual operating knowledge.

Despite what some may say, politics plays a big roll in advancement with this company, IMHO. It all depends on how you play your hand. Not saying you shouldn't apply, just keep your eyes open. The experience gained will be valuable in the future.
