CNN 777 Simulator = Carnival Ride

Post by A321 »

Love the $150/hr Mississauga carnival ride CNN is using on their 777 MH370 coverage. Could CNN buy real 777 sim time in the US if the network wanted to or would that be unavailable as it would be considered training for future terrorists?

What's with the gringo in the left seat? Unbuttoned shirt, untucked, white beater underneath? Come on, you're on TV! No very professional!

My exact thoughts when I first saw him. He's been the "go to" guy on CNN for many days in a row now. Very unprofessional. One of the other American stations did a similar report from inside a flight simulator and the captain "looked" like a captain. White shirt, tie and 4 bars.

They keep calling him an instructor, which maybe he is, but I doubt it's on a 777. Either way, is it too hard to find a dress shirt, and shave off the weird facial hair, for international tv?

You would think CNN would have enough contacts to get access to a real 777 sim and pilot.

I'm not sure a white shirt and 4 bars are necessary and sufficient to be an aviation expert, but agree I'm not likely to pay much attention to an expert who can't figure out how to dress himself.

As for CNN's poor reporting, it's obvious that they know what they are doing when it comes to providing entertainment labelled as news. Can't argue with success.

Yeah cause the way you dress has a direct relationship to your aviation knowledge, skills or worth as a human being. You guys are suffering from social conditioning. Relax, its just CNN...

If I was the boss of that sim company, and my name got dragged thru the mud because someone can't button up his shirt, I would be having a chat with the individual! It's just unprofessional, something most pilots learn early!

Gotta think that getting any 777 sim time at short notice is tough…the procedures trainer they are using is more likely easier to get…the "instructor" could very well be a tech guy…in my experience those guys know the systems as well (or better) then some pilots! They spend the quiet hours in the seats playing! Just sayin' !

While you're definitely giving the guy the benefit of the doubt, they did specifically say that he's an INSTRUCTOR and COMMERCIAL PILOT. I don't know about you guys, but has this guy gone to work in the last 2 weeks? Seems like every day he's on TV.

Perhaps choice of clothes is one step closer to higher chance of employment (now i'm just speculating aren't I, for all I know maybe he lost a leg and can only instruct and they are boosting his ego by still calling him a Commercial Pilot)

Regardless, he still could have shaved that stupid goat off his face for the cameras.

Intelligence and integrity is rarely masked by shaving or putting on a pilot costume.
Besides, what idiot needs a level D FFS to speak to the uninformed about a subject far more sophisticated and advanced than a Family Guy episode?
We should try to keep this in perspective. No?

I'd like to know how an outfit like this sells device time to OTS curios wanting to fly a 777.
Where's our security and intelligence people. Our MIBs? What sinister minds are accessing this device? What of their intentions?
Inquiring minds want to know?

I agree with you about not needing a LEVEL D ... but if you're "commercial pilot" ... at least show your profession some respect and dress well no?

Exactly. Certain situations require a certain dress code. This guy is dressed like a farmer. Sorry, but baggy blue jeans and sloppy shirt on international tv? You wouldn't dress this way to a wedding, job interview, date, or any other important event. A Saturday at home... sure of course. This is the biggest and best industry exposure he will ever have in his life. He should have some respect for himself, his employer and the pilot profession. It's no wonder the college wants to instill professionalism into the industry.

Nobody has questioned his intelligence, integrity, or worth as a human being. If you feel how you dress doesn't matter in certain situations, try wearing baggy jeans and a unbuttoned/untucked shirt to your next 704/705 interview and let us know how it goes.

The biggest and best exposure in his life? On CNN? Wow…Andy Warhol was right…(Maybe this guy could give two sh*ts about the whole thing…) While I agree there should be a dress code for various social functions and certainly for an interview, maybe he's just not interested in following your "norms"? No need to be judgemental in my opinion.

FWIW - CNN approached Air Canada to use their 777 sim - AC said that the sim was all booked - CNN also didn't want to pay the $100,000+ required to rent it for 12+ hours.

I also heard this dude made the CPT for $15k

uFly fires flight instructor after CNN appearances on Malaysia Airlines story

Mitchell Casado 'shamed Canadians' with shabby appearance, company owner says

Wed Apr 16, 2014 - Associated Press

Flight simulator instructor Mitchell Casado 'shamed Canadians' with his shabby appearance, according to his former employer uFly. (Mitchell Casado/Twitter)

A Mississauga, Ont. flight simulator business fired an instructor who figured prominently in CNN's coverage of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, saying he showed up late to his regular job and "shamed Canadians" by dressing like a teenager.

uFly company owner Claudio Teixeira said he fired Mitchell Casado on Wednesday in part for refusing to dress professionally and making Canadians "look very bad all over the world."

Casado's relaxed style of jeans and plaid shirts attracted wide attention during the U.S. news channel's constant coverage of the search for the missing flight. CNN's Martin Savidge and Casado logged many hours reporting from the fake cockpit located at the company's office near Pearson International Airport, which has a simulator that is the same model of the lost plane.

Teixeira said Casado didn't come to work Tuesday when customers had the simulator booked. "This is not the first time. He's been warned before," he told The Associated Press.

Teixeira says he received many email complaints about the instructor's way of dressing during the time he appeared on CNN.

"Even though I let him be on TV he shamed us Canadians and shamed my company with the way he was dressing like he was 15 years old," he said. "People were complaining that it wasn't professional at all … If you go to any plane you don't see them in shorts and sandals."

Casado declined to comment when reached by AP, saying "I'm not interested in talking to you."

In a tweet earlier, Casado wrote "My boss had me training a new guy the last few days, and now that he can do my job, and CNN left, he fired me. That's Ufly."
