there's the guidelines for anesthetic in the aip somewhere, but realistically, that operation can knock you on your ass for awhile. I was working a non flying job way back when I had that done, I ended up being off work for between 2-3 weeks.

Speaking of which, we had an instructor once on a night X-country, have their appendix nearly burst half-way to their destination. The instructor became practically useless in their condition. Luckily the student handled the situation alright, turned around and came back home, where there's a hospital near the airport.

That situation really made us all think about what would happen if this occured when there wasn't someone capable of flying the plane back. If your appendix ruptures in flight, or something along the same scale, you will not be able to do anything useful, literally.

You will be OK when you can support a 3 pound weight from your erect tallywhacker!!!
Seriously, check with your CAME. An appendix is not that serious and you should not loose your medical. I did not loose my medical when I broke my leg.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

When I was taking my first lessons my instructor asked me what I would do if he were to knock out and had me fly home and join the circuit by myself, I guess to enhance my confidence, too.
