Planes get shot at more often then you think. There was some red neck shooting at planes in the Springbank practice area years back. I have been shot at and bombed in Africa, but only bullet holes I brought home in my airplane were over Norther Manitoba. Go figure.

The difference is that Canadians know how to
shoot. Not everyone can figure out how much
to lead the target.

I remember reading a WWII fighter pilot's
biography. He was hosing down a bomber, to
no effect. Then, the bomber behind it burst into
flames.

One of the stories about Air America ( The World's Most Shot-At Airline) mentions how frequently they would be used as target practice by bored soldiers manning isolated OP's. Soldiers they were actually supporting.
A Beaver or Courier was struggling to clear a high ridge after departing a jungle clearing. A soldier in a sand-bagged OP on the ridge took a casual bead on the plane and pulled the trigger. The round struck the aircraft right between the main gear, continued up through the cockpit floor and struck the pilot right in the heart, killing him instantly.
Hearing the crash, an officer rushed from his CP up the hill to the OP. Getting the story from the other soldier in the OP, the officer drew his sidearm and executed the shooter on the spot.
Not sure who's feelings were hurt...
