Alberta Aviation Museum B737-200 at Villeneuve broken into:

Post by Tom H »

Alberta Aviation Museum’s PWA Boeing 737 at Villeneuve broken into:

The PWA Boeing 737 of the Alberta Aviation Museum at the Villeneuve Airport was broken into Saturday (August 23rd) night/early morning of Sunday (August 24th).

The PWA Boeing 737, a landmark at the Alberta Aviation Museum on Kingsway in Edmonton for many years, used for public tours, education programs, filming and other purposes. The 737 flew out of Edmonton City Centre Airport November 29th, 2013

It was up to this point a fully operational / flight worthy aircraft that was intended to return to public display and its other uses as a feature of the future museum second location at Villeneuve airport.

While an effort appears to be made to disguise the act as vandalism, several specific items removed from the aircraft combined with the precise method of entry indicates more experienced and knowledgeable perpetrator(s). Artifacts removed, such as an emergency door, have market value in operational aircraft today.

Morinville RCMP and the RCMP Investigative Unit attended the scene recovering extensive evidence, the investigation is ongoing.

This break in and the removal of key items is a serious setback for the volunteer driven non-profit society museum both financially and in timelines to activate the Villeneuve site.

We want to thank Edmonton International Airports, NavCanada and all those that help keep an eye on our Boeing 737 at Villeneuve airport including those that work both on and off airport as well as our neighbors around the airport.

Your help in the investigation and in monitoring the aircraft is appreciated, other security has been upgraded.

If you have information on this break in please contact:
Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520

For additional information on how this impacts the Museum please contact:
Aviation Museum at 780-451-1175

Hi Tom

Sorry to hear about the stolen property. Hopefully the people responsible are caught. It was amazing and a great accomplishment to see that 37 repositioned on such short notice to ZVL.

On a side note why thank EIA (Edmonton International Airport) ?

They are the reason why that plane is out in the middle of nowhere and your museum's future is uncertain.

Thanks for the kind words, its appreciated

The reason I'm thanking EIA is their team on the ground at Villeneuve are great folks that help us a ton and assist in many ways with the 737 and have been very co operative when we have been wanting to set up events and accommodating requests surrounding events.

The thanking sounded a bit sarcastic to me.

Hey, thanks EIA and Nav Canada for keeping a watch on our 737 while someone slipped right under your nose and robbed us. Great job guys.

No I'm not being sarcastic at all...

Yes when it comes to the ECCA issue we had a difference of opinion ( to say the least) but....

From long before the ECCA controversy and all the way through it Edmonton Airports has been extremely supportive and cooperative to the Museum, without their help all the guest aircraft and fly in type events we did at ECCA over the years (and especially the last 3 before closure) could not have happened.

At Villeneuve EIA has been extremely supportive with the lands for the second location/museum, assistance in bringing the B-25 earlier this year and working with us and others on the airport towards a large fly in for next year and other events.

Plus...

as above.

So if nothing else it proves that while we have disagreed over ECCA we have been able to work together on all the others and now we have to move beyond what has happened and work toward the success of the Villeneuve second location and the Villeneuve airport community as a whole.

And they have been instrumental in making that happen from our point of view.

In my highly biased personal opinion
