I still think farts are funny.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

C'mon ., no one is going to believe that. I seem to recall you were interviewed at Kittyhawk after the first flight bitching about the quality of pilot instruction those days. ;)

In fact I'm wearing them right now.

You know underwear isn't like a car, boat, or airplane. No one thinks you're cool for keeping it around forever :D

G'day

Turn 61 in November.

My first aircraft ride was at age 7 in the back end of an RCAF C-119. We flew at 13,000 feet from RCAF Unit Fort Churchill to RCAF Station Winnipeg in the middle of winter, 1961. Have been flying since September 1973.

Cheers...Chris

People ask me how old I am and I point out the window. "See that dirt out there? Same age".
Actually 74.
First flying lesson evening of June 29, 1959. Retired and last flight landed early evening of July 30, 2010. And it was a poor landing.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

About to become 55
Still work like I did at 35
Still think like I did at 25
Been know to still act like a teenager

Been involved in aviation since birth (first flight with my father as pilot and family in the plane at 3 weeks old)
Took a 15 year break when my father passed (no my smartest move)

But since I have done everything I can to preserve, promote and advocate for aviation and plan on continuing to.

But when my father passed in the early 80s I cut myself off from flying and destroyed my logs so had to start over, dumb move.
More to the story but thats nuff.

Since coming back in I have 200hrs +/- on everything from lawn chair ultralights to certified spam cans and love all of it.

Interesting that 49 % of the persons who answer the poll where in the 21 to 35 age cohort but the majority of the posters on this thread were over 50.....

You might have different results if you specified "posters" as opposed to "readers".

This poll lends credence to a suspicion I had. The majority of the readers are 35 and under, but the majority of the posters, including me (54), are quite a bit older.

Perhaps the younger posters/lurkers have been scared off from posting. Hey, it's safe to come back! The Colonel has been permabanned, and Shiny is only mildly grumpy (which I think is just because he hasn't been flying enough recently).

+ 1

I sure would like to see more newer instructors on the training forum. Unfortunately when the odd one does pop up they get abused by a small number of prolific posters who's mission in life seems to be disrespecting anyone who holds a current flight instructor rating  and are never heard from again.....

A fairly thick skinned guy, and was/is able to give others a chance to make their point too (see/use search function).

It's freedom 55 for me ... hope it's not just a pipe dream :?. For that bit of flying experience I've had it's hard to believe there can be so much in memory about it.

So ... I can only recommend joining in for someone who hasn't yet, and spit out some of that experience for others to see, even if a little inevitable flame-broiling occurs (IMO using water sometimes helps). Pilot readers ...newbies, instructors, retirees alike ... seem only to join in the fray when something said finally compels them to try. Now's the chance, ... as good a time as any.

I agree he posted a lot of useful stuff, but he also trolled an awful lot and also got stuff wrong. In the end he was generating a lot more heat than light, and I think the admins just got fed up with him.

Anyway, I've found that Mike Busch is a more reliable source for most of the stuff he posted.
