In-Person Test Fail

Post by yyzto »

Has anyone here failed the in-person testing and then has gone to do it again the next year and pass?

I tested back in the spring, and didn't pass unfortunately. However, I am still interested and want to re-try in 2014. Hopefully with better luck!

Thought I would make a post to see if anyone is in the same boat and has made it forward..any words of advice?

Or maybe better asked, does anyone know of anyone who has tested more then once but has eventually made it through?

I am curious to see if people have a chance after wards if they have even bothered to try again.

I do know of one person who was unsuccessful in the assessment the first time around and was invited to write it a second time after re applying. They ended up deciding not to write it again. But it is possible to be invited a second time.

I have failed the test twice before (albeit I wrote both a long time ago). I recently took the in-person assessment again and made it through! I'm on to the interview stage.

like all stages there are individual hurdles you must overcome. with some of these you are able to better your scores as your rewrite them. As we know the better you rank in the pool the more likely you are to move on to the next level. So if you are determined that ATC is where you want to be then by all means reapply as you will continue to improve and gain likelihood of reaching further platforms.

Hey,

Good luck in your application process, I have some of my personal experience to share with you.

I had initially failed the written assessment when I first wrote it. I wrote it again a year after and made it though the entire process. I am now on an IFR en-route course and about 3 weeks shy of finishing the generic portion of the course. I was sure that the portion of the written assessment I had failed was the audio part, so when I came in the 2nd time, I was a whole lot more ready. Someone else on my course has failed the online testing the first time he took them.

During the in person interview, I had also mentioned my previous attempt at the written exam to demonstrate that I have determination.

So don't let that deter you, if it is something you want to do, go for it!

Best of luck

Last year I made it past the in-person written, passed the phone interview, and then was phased out after the in-person interview which myself I thought went very well. It was devastating, but here I am again getting ready for the in-person written which I was invited to for a second time. If it's something you want, keep at it. Heck, I had to ask a girl out 4 times before she finally said yes. She is now my wife and happily married for 8 years. You are only going to catch your dream if you keep chasing.

Good luck Marvin !

I got my results back from my recent in person assessment. I have been weighed, measured, and have been found wanting :)

I feel I did well on most every area but really bombed the audio portion. I tried to take notes and should have just listened to the recording. When the time came to read my notes I couldn't make sense of my own short hand and only answered about 3-5 questions with uncertainty.

It was kind of a relief to stop trying to think how to make it a 6-12 months with no pay and support a family with no second income (3 month old).

I told my buddy that this is a young and single mans game (or the NINJA generation who still live with their parents:). I had originally applied in 1998 and if I wasn't a lazy procrastinator I could have had the chance to do the whole experience and get paid while training !

Great to see you guys not giving up, all the best with the process. Please post updates, I enjoy hearing about other peoples experiences.
