Usually all the airborne surveillance guys are hired from within the company. Typically they are very high time - somewhere around 5000 hrs+. Lots of low level stuff.

Typical mission profile takes them to 20,000 fett or so to let the radar pick out there targets. Then it's down to about 200 feet for closer inspection and some pictures. Their sked is made up by DFO so it's anyones guess, but they put on around 500hrs on the west coast over 4 months or so depending on what DFO wants to spy on and when.

It is on the East coast - but the west coast is only allocated 500 hrs a year (theres no money for a year round plane here) So they come to visit for 4-5 months in the summer - then head back to the rock.

Contact is right. West coast is going full time as of now. I was offered full time, either coast but opted not to for family reasons. It was an FO position, and I have 2000 total time, 900+ on the B200. The captain's requirements on the Fishpat's is quite high, but not sure what the minimum is.
