Mike,
I am a gym junky. Their is really no easy way to lose weight. Aikins diet, California diet, ect.... all work wonders, but what happens after you go off the diet? The hardest thing that you will encounter is the committment to losing the weight. I go to the gym as well as a lot of walking (golf), but gym memberships can be expensive. You will find it easy and inexpensive if you can commit to a walk 3-4 times a week. Start off with an easily manageable distance and add to it every week or so, whenever you feel you can. Another thing is to try and find someone who wants to do this with you (motivation) as you will find that those days when you don't feel like it the other person will drive you and vise versa. I'm not sure where you live but you can find clubs for walking or running in some of the bigger places or start your own at work. Lastly, one of the important things to remember is energy in, energy out. You want to lose weight get a calorie guide and count what you put in to what goes out, this is one of the most successful ways to lose weight, I can almost guarantee if you count your input and output for 1 month with the intention of increasing output while decreasing input and start a weekly excercise ritual you will lose weight, just don't expect it overnight. Slow off, slow on.
Hope this helps. Oh, and before you start any regular excercise regime, consult your doctor. (saw that on tv.)

I do a lot of things to keep my svelt appearance, even at work.
Before I eat, I go into my boss' office for the aroma...Ever been to the Toronto Zoo? Ever been in a New York taxi cab? Combine the two, you're in FLAVOUR COUNTRY ie. the chief's office. . Smells can destroy your taste buds.
Less bread and low carb beer.Sound like you covered all the bases.
The only other thing I might suggest is regular exersize. Walking for 1/2 an hour 3 or 4 times a week does wonders.
Sorry fellas. Don't fall the the low carb beer marketing bs. It's the alcohol conversion to simple sugar carbohydrates that pack the fat on. Train specifically for what you want to acomplish. 1g of protien and one gram of carbs equal 4 calories each. 1g of fat equals 9 calories. If your goal is to lose weight, expend more calories than you take in. Exercise. No substitutes for it, sorry.
Many believe carbs are the culprits, not true. By simply eliminating carbs you restrict or eliminate essential nutrients from your diet. Obviously, if you stuff yourself with them, your body stores them as spare energy. Manage your intake of them instead. Also, protien cannot be stored as fat. Excess protien is eliminated by the kidneys and cannot be stored as reserve energy. The other part of the diet is fats. Believe it or not some fats are essential, eg. omega 3. Avoid trans and saturated ones like fried food, junk food, etc.
Or take Dennis Leary's advice; "Put the fork down!"
It's a hoot, groups all over the place and you'd be surprised at who you see there (age, shape, size etc.) Best thing about it (well 2 things actually) 1.Different workout available at all times depending on what you feel like at any time, and 2. If you work at it and try and get good at it, then weight retention becomes the issue.
I buy 10 lb bags of rice and 5 lb bags of pasta. They don't last more than a couple of months.
'course if you're stuck somewhere remote training for all three may be a bit tough, but you can find combinations of any two of the three around as well.
Don’t make it about the weight. You will hit sticking points; I’m at one that has lasted months. I know that there is no way I could stick to a diet for that long. Make it about getting in shape and if you lose weight then that’s a bonus.

You've been at that sticking point for as long as i've known you.
Weight is a poor measure of fitness. Go to the health spa and get a body composition analysis done. Most effective is the water displacement tank, second, calipers, last electrode thingies. The test will tell you what you are made of (percent body fat). Then, aim to loose fat and gain muscle. Your overall weight may not change at all and without the body comp analysis you'd get discouraged.
Don't rely on a workout partner. The motivation has to come from inside. Eat well and exercise effectively. Build muscle to increase caloric consumption, do cardio to speed up metabolism. Short duration, high intensity exercise is more effective in achieving this that long duration/ lower intensity is. 20 minutes of intervals 3 times a week on the treatmill, stair bastard, or whatever will do more for you than a 10 Km jog at a constant intensity level.
Your continual display of jealousy does not serve you well. We are all aware of your physical and mental handicaps and think that you should just work on accepting the fact that you are ugly, dress funny and are none too bright and stop trying to insult those of us that are better looking, better dressed and more intelligent.
Please, do refrain yourself and work on that all-important self-image that you have. Best wishes on your therapy.
