Telus sucks
Telus posted a 242 million profit for the first quarter of this year, double the same quarter last year, but wont negotiate a contract in good faith with workers. They have offered to provide security guards to allow scabs to cross picket lines! What a scuzball company, I really long for the days of publicly owned utilities like B.C. Tel. What Telus is doing to us, and their workforce, is criminal. If you feel like I do, send an email to your MP and get this scumbag bunch of extorsionists shut down.

i say, get rid of unions all together. They are not in the game to help the employees. they are in it to line thier own pockets. They brainwash the employees into thinking " hey deserve more money, even though i dont work that hard anyways cause of my union, but they say im entitled so..."
The union only wants this cause it gives them a bigger chunk of YOUR paycheque. I think the mob works this way as well.

I am not a union lover. That being said, utilities, like your phone, isp's etc should not be in the private sector. We are getting hosed, big time! They treat their employees like crap and we get the shit service and huge charges. It pisses me off to see these guys go for 4 yrs without a contract and then have that bunch of nazis try and impose one on them. So they walked out, I say good for them and I hope they stick it to Telus.
I'm givin er all she's got..
My complaint is with Telus, why should they be running a monopoly in parts of Western Canada, and why do we have competition boards etc., who are allowing it, i.e. their obscene profits at your and my cost? I say, return utility companies to the public sector and kick Telus's Nazi asses out. Call me a socialist, that's fine. It should be right across the board, from auto insurance to Hydro - make them public across Canada and legislate it back. The government is supposed to be the people, not a multi national nameless entity, the utilities belong to us and any profit generated is ours.

I phoned Telus yesterday and the conversation went like this:
Me: Hi, I being billed for a Calling feature I didn't order
Telus: It says here you asked for it

Me: Ok, I didn't and I don't want it, I don't even use this @#&%$@
Telus: Ok, well in any case, we have a 30 day money back guarantee
Me: Ok, so cancel it for me
Telus: Ok, so what is the reason of your cancellation
Me: Sigh...I being billed for a Calling feature I didn't order
Telus: Ok, the thing...hum...it says here you asked for it
Me: ""Thinking of Hazatude's avatar""
Telus: I'll have to get a Manager, Hello my name is Telus Manager
Me: Hi, so can you do this for me?
Telus: Let's see, so you didn't order this calling feauture?
Me: No
Telus: Weird, it says here you asked for it
Me: Deep breath...I didn't, I don't use this #$@%# can you remove it please
Telus: It says here you've been subscribing to it for the past 2 months

The alternative is a government run monopoly which totaly crushes any hope of inovation. Take Sasktel for example. before they brought DSL to the province, a number of small internet providers wanted to be able to sell that technology. Sasktel told them not on our lines you won't. Then shortly after they began to offer the service and every small ISP in the province went broke. All those ISPs payed taxes to support a government who's goal was to put them out of buisness. Now we're seeing a similar situation with VOIP. I belive the government should be responsible for the infrastructure of the uttilities, however not the services being provided on the lines. That includes power. Which leads me to another rant. SaskPower records record profits. Then the government says "sweet let's take a big juicey dividend and put it in general revenue". So now the government has wiped the bank account clean, and SaskPower has to go and apply for a rate hike so they can maintain and upgrade the infrastructure of the system. So what our power bill basically amounts to is another tax to support the socialistic policies of our government.swede wrote:My complaint is with Telus, why should they be running a monopoly in parts of Western Canada, and why do we have competition boards etc., who are allowing it, i.e. their obscene profits at your and my cost? The whole idea of buisness is profit at the customers cost. Thats a pretty basic principal. If you don't like telus then switch your phone company. Every province in the country aside from Saskatchewan has alternatives. eg VOIP.swede wrote:, and why do we have competition boards etc., who are allowing it, i.e. their obscene profits at your and my cost.
Might have worked differently with Sasktel, but here Bell had to share their lines with 3rd party DSL providers.
It's always been a sore point for them, as cable companies don't have to share anything. Meanwhile Bell has to maintain the lines etc while competitors are allowed to use them. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Well, you have hit the nail on the head. We do NOT have an alternative to telus where I live and that is why I'm bent! The only thing we have in my part of B.C. is primus wonderful L/D plan, it is no better than what telus offers. We have no Voip, no sprint - zip. Now of course I could move, I don't think telus will pay for it..[/b]Dust Devil wrote:The whole idea of buisness is profit at the customers cost. Thats a pretty basic principal. When BC tel was here, which If memory serves was up to about 15 yrs ago, service charges were very minimal for a basic phone. The thing about a govt. run system is it is not for profit. That is why we only pay about $.07/Kwhr of electricity through BC Hydro. Campbell would just love to see that privatized, but he knows his head would be on a platter because they tried that stunt with the Coquihala Highway and it failed and tax payers were about to lynch the local MLA. If it was Ontario Hydro here, we would be paying about triple, that is the difference when it is government owned. I believe the system infrastructure belongs to the government, the sp's could be private but would have to be more tightly regulated. It would seem that with telus, the skies the limit on charges, and their financial statement is proof of that.

Yeah... the Ontario Government sold off Ontario Hydro... biggest cock-up in history if you ask me. Now they're forced to regulate the hydro rate and suck up the difference. If it was a publicly owned utility we definitely wouldn't be importing power from the states right now, and our grid wouldn't be falling apart... because, as it was said, it wouldn't be run for a profit.

Ya and in the 50's a Coke and bag of chips was 50 cents. Just cause 15 years ago phone service appeared to be cheap doesn't mean if it had remained a public company that there would not have been rate hikes. It seems every year SaskPower and Sasktel Hike the rates by atleast 5% over 15 years I'm pretty sure my phone bill and power bill have increased substantialy. I fail to see how people can't recognize the value in deregulation. All you have to do is look at Alberta and Saskatchewan. Alberta embraced deregulation and they prosper. Saskatchewan keeps everything with the crown and we fall behind. It's not that complicated.swede wrote:When BC tel was here, which If memory serves was up to about 15 yrs ago
Telus does suck...but because of their ridiculous excuse for customer service. Being a Telus customer is a non-stop battle. There's a reason that my cell phone is a Bell Mobility phone. Unfortunately I'm stuck with Telus for local service and DSL.

Please don't tell my mother that I work in the Oilpatch...she still thinks that I'm the piano player at a whorehouse.

Yeah your right, Alberta has prospered, cause their filthy rich in the lucre from oil and gas (I should say a select few are filthy rich, there is a bit of spillover for the peons). If you think deregulation is so great, why don't you go down to California and ask how they like Ken lay (GWB's pal), and how great a deal ENRON was for the consumer. Every time a private corporation get their hands on crown property, the taxpayers get hosed!Dust Devil wrote:All you have to do is look at Alberta and Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan has Oil, Diamonds, Potash, Uranium, Gold, Coal, and a whole pile of other resources. In fact our oil sands reserves are far larger that what is in Alberta. Alberta does seem to have larger reserves of convetional oil and gas resevoirs. However with Saskatchewan's huge amount of resources, it is far to costly for a company to come here to extract them. Not to mention the power the labour organizations have in this province.Chantal wrote:Alberta has the Oil that's how they prosper, isn't it? Some regions don't get Telus service and that isn't fair too.

Here is an interesting map to look at
http://www.infomaps.gov.sk.ca/website/S ... viewer.htm
Notice how along the Alberta border there appears to be oil. and just by chance in the SE corner of the province (Which is a very conservative riding) Seems strange how as you get closer to a conservative area, there appears to be production happening. There is a huge gap in this province with oil production between Lloydminster and Estevan.

Well, it seems we have veered off topic here, Telus and Enron are great companies...I'm here to make a bet, Telus employees could stay off for 6 mos. on strike, the service will deteriorate, but them ole bills will be right on time.
