Great Places to fly to from Toronto
The Doctor who did my physical in Toronto was telling me about some place that pilots go to for breakfast on Sunday mornings in Muskoka. I did try and google it but I didnt find much..
If I am in Toronto,, can I know some of more interesting places to fly to ... day trips sort of thing. I am a student pilot...

Muskoka is a very nice airport, but eating at the airport is poor. You can walk up to the Skyways Motel on the highway, there's a truck stop there with good food. 20 minute walk from the terminal.
Also consider Lindsay, good restaurant at the airport, Collingwood, very nice snack bar in the terminal. Parry Sound, snack bar in the terminal. Wiarton used to be very nice, but I hear it has closed.
In the summer, Lake St John Orillia usually has burgers on the weekend. For a longer trip, Killarney is great, but plan well for a flight over less populated territory for that. At Tobermory, there are usually bikes for loan at the airport. It's a long ride to town, but enjoyable.

Rockcliffe Ottawa, great to goto and see the museum.

Edenvale has a fantastic restaurant and it's only a 30 minute flight at 100 knots. (Just don't bust the MF that surrounds Borden. It's separate from the CYR there and it's usually not displayed on the GPS database.

Katana Kafé in London, ON (CYXU) is a great place, right beside the runway and reasonable prices for what you get. Usually you can park across at the Esso.

Goderich has something off the threshold of runway 28. You can even park your plane basically right next to it. It's more of a diner style. Cash only. Not amazing but good enough. But then again, frankly, the majority of the places listed so far are not outstanding (except for fish & chips in Killarney).

THE BUTTERTARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! At Lindsay!!!!!
Kitchener/Waterloo has an ok Restaurant.
Killarney for Fish n Chips - But it's closed for the season.

Day trip, pop up and see Vintage Wings at CYND gatineau. p51' spitfire, hurricane, restorations, coarsir, F86, finch chipmunk harvard, foxmoth.. etc.etc... Most all are airworthy or being made that way. great restaurant - try the pea soup. Then pop over to rockliffe see the Canada aviation museum then home.

Considering you're leaving from Toronto, wouldn't anywhere you go be an improvement?

My top vote is for Edenvale. Fantastic restaurant, tons of parking, quiet airfield. In the summer time you can fly along the Wasaga Beach coast and get an eyeful of bikinis.
Next would be Killarney for the fish and chips. Not sure if they are open during the winter months though. If you go to Rockcliffe, take a taxi (or walk) to The Works. It's a really good burger place. You can check out the museum too.

I'm with cgzro, The eats at the little CYND greasy spoon are actually pretty good. I had to bring students there for flight tests for a few months when we were short examiners. With 2 hours to kill each time, I think I gained 10 lbs. Vintage Wings and the museum at Rockliffe are great- that would make a terrific day trip!

Don't forget about Peterborough or Elmhirst Resort (CPS2) if you are looking to go east of Toronto. Oshawa also has a little cafe in the terminal but I think it is only open during the week.

You guys are not from Toronto.WhiskeyWhiskey wrote:X2Joe Blow Schmo wrote:Considering you're leaving from Toronto, wouldn't anywhere you go be an improvement?
I would recommend sticking to places it's really easy to get back from. Then you will never be stuck living here for fifty years wistfully telling "back home" stories.
