First solo today!!

My instructor totally surprised me today! Never thought he'd let me solo because it's a little windy. Nevertheless, I made one of my best landings ever. Too bad I was only allowed to do one circuit. I'm feeling on top of the world now (still recovering from the cold water soaking though)

My solo was in a Fleet Canuck CF-EBE on August 23 1953.

I remember well both of my first solos, I had a good piece of shirt cut away after the first. That was in the first 152 imported to Canada, and it had 33 hours since new when I did that. The CFI told off my instructor for the first solo in the brand new plane thing. After my second, I was soaked by everyone around who could pick up a bucket of water. They ran the water for a while, so it was nice and cold!

Gee Cat, when I did my first solo, Fleet Canucks were thought of as old!

I remember well after a dual circuit or 2 at the end of the lesson, we pulled up to park and shut down, as we stop, my IP says something like "ok just take it up and do one more, take your time" --- he was always saying that ---- while undoing his belt and opening the door.

I remember that solo taxi back to the threshold on that perfect late afternoon in september, taking a rather deep breath, pushing forward the power on mighty CGYAO, taking off, climbing out, thinking so far so good, this is cool, then turning crosswind and thinking " oh crap I have to land this thing without killing myself" came around, pretty nice landing with (lightly) white knuckles.....

WHAT A FEELING, I DID IT MYSELF!

Then walked through the door at CZBA, and got soaked, big time.

Just 10 short years ago....

I remember my first solo, in a Jodel on a grass runway in France at 15.. Felt 10 feet tall.. Funny thing was my Dad, who used to drive me to my early lessons, fell asleep in the car and missed it. infact he did not believe me till the following weekend:)

Congrats! My first one was about 2 weeks ago. Fortunately too cold for a bucket of water Did it in my own Cherokee 140.

Congrats FXYZ, the first solo is always a great milestone. Wait until your first solo out of the control zone then first solo XC. They take longer than the 3 minutes to do a circuit and you'll actually get to relax some and enjoy being a pilot. Don't forget to look up and enjoy the views once in a while.

Congrats! I soloed around this time of year only 3 years ago. Time flies.

My instructor specifically warned me up about the performance increase but I was still surprised how quick the ground retreated from me.

Congrats! Too cold for water? I was in Toronto and could actually pick up ice from my shirt after the soaking

My dad didn't believe it either but booked an intro flight for himself after watching some of my solo flights.

A huge congrats to you!!! I just started my training... so a bucket of cold water eh? uh oh I did not realize this was customary everywhere LOL!

After I soloed they lined me up in front of the flying school building "to take a picture with the flying school sign." While standing there I heard laboured footsteps behind me that stopped suddenly. I sidestepped about two feet to the right, just as a wave of water from what I guess was a mostly full garbage can cascaded down beside me.

So one arm got a little wet, and my leg from the water splashing, but that's about it.
