New Hire Bases & Commuting

Post by Propjet »

Hi guys,
any idea which bases the latest new hires are being sent to? Last year it was YYC. What are the chances of a YYZ base? For those of you in Jazz, based on an average schedule is it feasible to commute from say YYZ to YYC?

Thanks

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific, they are interviewing again. Not sure what the plan is for actual hiring, but thought someone on the inside might have some input.

From the couple guys I know they were all able to be based out eat within 18 months. Of those guys one was commuting so it is possible. The base will probably be Calgary. Everyone internally gets to bid base change before the new hires. Good luck.

+1.. I do think it'll be Calgary. I can't say it'll be an easy commute though. Those flights are way too full all the time. When I do that here in YYZ, I jump back and forth between terminals so I can try both WS and AC.

I've heard YYZ needs 10 fo's for the classic

(and ten captains)

although I heard this would be at the expense of YUL

12 for the Nov24 course.
12 for the Dec15 course.

Can't tell you bases as my crystal ball isn't that clear.

The above numbers are subject to change, and I believe sim evals are scheduled throughout December so I would expect it to continue in January.

If you haven't been keeping your online profile updated, do it now as I believe it does "expire" if inactive for a period of time (3 months maybe?).

Good luck

As somone who's commute has always been on four wheels (well, sometimes two, but you get the idea)..

How would commuting for a new hire work from YVR to probably YYC (or wherever I could be based?) Is it feasible?

It's doable lots of people do it. but the loads are always super tight.
Keep in mind a ton of mainline flight attendants and pilots commute that exact same route and you will never ever be a higher priority than them.
Then there is the ton of Jazz YVR commuters who got displaced to YYC when there base was down scaled so your behind all those guys.
