Excellent!

Some of the comments on the CBC article are pretty disappointing, we live in a pretty stupid world.

It'll always be a game of give and take, definitely a better deal then the last proposal. Whether you're for it or against it you've got to appreciate the hard work the WJPA reps put into it. Its certainly not perfect but without question some good gains were made especially regarding the 17th day issue. Thanks to those involved.

Congratulations to my fellow pilots at WestJet. Although I work for the competition, I am happy to see you reach an agreement that a majority of you clearly support. Great voter turn out too by the way. I am hopeful that this will provide you with the stability and security you deserve. I'm not entirely sure what's in your deal, but what matters is that you are happy with it. All the best.

Dammit you made me read them all...
Typical blather from both sides of the union fence (both extremes silly). It's was worth the read though to find the gem about the ceo's crest strips. That had me on the floor...

64% in favour is a poor ratification result for an agreement with a recommend from the bargaining committee and the representational executive.

This is a company that is neither teetering on bankruptcy nor was it facing a strike. Clearly, there were either unrealistic expectations on the part of 36% of the pilots or there was more to be gained that was not.

The seed of discontent has been planted. 36% of the 'team' members will feel disenfranchised. Will they get over it? Probably. But if that 36% number drifts up over time there may be a rocky labour relations road ahead.

O/K.......... but what can the WJ drivers do, there is no legal standing, in other words they can't withdraw their services in a legal manner because there is no official " certified" bargaining unit like ALPA et al. Just as well to accept what their company offers and carry on. The 36% know this as well as anybody else, all isn't going to be perfect in either unionized or non-unionized company.

I would guess that 36% is probably also the current level of interest in unionization by the WJ pilots. So, given the details of the agreement and the recent campaign by WJPPA, the result was almost predictable.

Still, for a company that prefers to use terms like 'team', this has to be a disappointing result.
