Best Out of Country Employment Prospects With 2000hrs Piston

Post by carpie »

What are some of the best out of country companies that someone with around 2000 hours of piston engine time could apply to and any specific tips to get in the door with those companies. I am looking for a combination of answers from Asia, Africa, and the Carribean. Job market seems pretty quiet in Canada right now.

Job market quiet in Canada right now?

If you have some turbine hours and left seat the market is very good.

Are you looking for single-engine work? If that's the case, then
I'd have to agree with what rocket81 is getting at: the
market seems decent.

If you're looking for a twin gig and you don't have any real
multi-time, then your shit out of luck. Just like me and all my
left seat single turbine time

I got a text about a month and a half ago asking if I was interested in flying over in SE Asia. A couple weeks later I was in country and having a blast. My experience has been that it's still who you know, at least when you're talking about small carriers and aircraft.

I think the Canadian market is pretty good at this point. Have you worked elsewhere since the last time I had a look at your resume (feel free to pm me)

Good luck.

Single engine stuff flying tourists or pipeline inspections would be fine for me. Right now I just need to get back into aviation whichever way I can! Regarding the turbine time no i don't have that though I would love some time on a Caravan or PC12. I wish there were a few more BN2s around also though since some of the tourist jobs in the Caribbean look pretty sweet but they usually require 500 hrs on type.

btw for those looking in Canada this is a good resource as well - http://www.a-list.ca/

Without turbine time it's tuff.

If you had some van time I'd say look up Costal Aviation in Tanzania, that'd be the only place you'd likely want to go in Africa. You have too many hours for Namibia or Botswana.

If you want to get some fast caravan time get on dropzone.com and fly jumpers for a LARGE DZ, probably could crank out near 100hrs a month at the right place, and could progress into a twotter or KA if you find a DZ with a van and a twin, all left seat PIC and fun too

Jump flying is fun, I got a little taste of doing that in a 172 years ago.... but I have a credit card to pay off ! I would love to go to Namibia or Botswana and do that type of flying.

You can make 30k+ a year and often get housing at a big full time 7 day a week turbine DZ.

As for Bots and Nam, good luck with your hours, and no way you'll pay off your cards over there.

They have a mold which they like to sick to, fresh CPL-500ish TT typically non-instrutors, the companies figure you can't get a job back home so the pay is crap, the companies wouldn't last a day in North America with how they are run and the people in management.
THAT SAID the country is beautiful, the meat and booze is cheap and really good, plenty of fun stuff to do and it is really fun.

If you want to go to Africa, get 300hrs in a van and head over to Tanzania, grown up pay, all turbine, good bennies and housing allowances and its a pretty country.

Good info supercharged thanks! If I could pick a Van job here in Canada it would be with Morningstar but so far have not been able to get any attention. At my last job a coworker had just come back from Indonesia and seemed pretty happy with the Caravan flying he had been doing over there also.

Found a jump pilot AD on dropzone.com, any other suggestions for good places to build some turbine time? That one was at SkyDive Toronto.

Due to current "aviation politics" I wouldn't recommend Africa at this time. Unless he has some type of "in". Even Tz is A LOT harder to get a work permit not a days then it was 2 years ago.
