I would like to speak on behalf of all left-handed pilots when I say we are a proud people and do not consider ourselves inferior to our right-handed brethren.

Funny you should bring this up. Many left handed people are injured (killed? Don't know) using tools and equipment designed for right handed users. Seriously. Besides, left handed golf clubs just look silly.

It's a topic that can be debated to death, and there really isn't a right/wrong to it.

Just because I'm curious what you think... is it fair to say that the decision making process of a female pilot is more influenced by emotions, whereas a male pilot by facts and information?

Not that I personally believe there's a universal answer to this because you have people who are more logical and people who are more emotional, irrelevant to gender. But I believe it's a fact that females (regardless of maturity) have more ups and downs/thoughts in a day as compared to a guy?... no? I could be wrong. But I'm just thinking of the typical scenario where the guy bought the wrong thing from the grocery store, and the wife goes on a 15 minute thought process if this was on purpose, and whether he doesn't care about her, and why he would do something like this, why doesn't he listen to me? etc... Meanwhile the guy just forgot...

Just curious what you think? And if there are any women that can shed light on the matter I'd love to hear the woman's side to this. You can probably give us a better answer than any of us guys.

I have flown with both males and females that were amazing, and not so good. So at the end of the day it's about the person for me, not the gender. (Phew... thank god we are talking about airplanes here and not something else)

That's interesting.

I'm left-handed... but all I do left handed is write and eat with a fork (chopsticks are right handed). But everything else I've done has been right handed because that was how the equipment presented itself... scissors, computer mouse, guitar, golf clubs, etc etc. Of course, having some fine motor skills in the left hand comes in handy... like when driving and bucking rivets.... ...or swapping seats in a plane.

At the company I worked for in Penticton... all of the male employees plus the owner (eight of us in total I believe it was) wrote left-handed.

As am I. Write left handed, and generally fly left, but have no problem flying right handed from the right seat (got very used to flying with my right from my Citabria time).

But as you mentioned, I also end up doing things with the right, golfing, batting in baseball (although I throw left), etc...

Some things are certainly annoying, like writing on a white board, writing in pencil, writing with certain pens that don't dry quickly. Right handed people just don't understand the difficulty there.

Inferior? Not at all, just different because you process using other parts of your brain than any right-handed person. I'm sure that being at least partial or fully ambidextrous changes the equation.

Seriously though, I'm sure emotions play a part in how we made decisions. Whether there is a difference in those emotions being estrogen or testosterone based is just part of the debate.

Men/Women can be frayed balls of emotion, or square blocks of stone and anywhere in between. We're individuals.

Not trying to tell you what to do, but this thread is going to offend somebody down the road. The title just drives it in that direction. I found nothing offensive, and I've read every post. But you did. Says it all. Why not just lock it before that happens? Male vs female discussions always offend somebody.

Women pilots depressingly follow the bell curve when it comes to good and bad. Contrary to Heinlein's theories, they are subject to al the greatness and failings that are of the potential in men. And I can say that from having flow with a reasonable sampling of licensed women pilots from ATPL holders down to Rec Permit holders. Some are good, some are bad, and good women pilots are good for the same reasons men pilots are good, bad women pilots are bad for the same reason men pilots are bad.

That said though, the girls these days increasingly blow the men away as students particularly in the under thirty category. They're on the ball, they're there because they want to be there, and in all but the few exceptions, consistently beat the men on PSTAR scores and written test scores. They study, they take notes. Sadly though, this isn't because they're particularly awesome, its by comparrison the usual crop of man-children are spectacularly bad. A notable tendancy these days is a lot of boys (using that term in the loosest possible sense) coming to flying are down and outers drug out of the parent's basement where aviation's chief attraction is a lack of entry obstacles. Bad grades in school? Go be a pilot!

What's with all these unemployed, almost thirty year old "boys" who's mothers book their lessons?!

Personally, I think my life is soft compared to my father's, and his was soft compared to Grampa's, but now its gotten out of hand.
