Superior Caravan Captain
Greatly improved. Still, as with any operation with a checkered past, go in with your eyes open.
As usual....avoid the ramp. Rumour has it the ramp can be full time. Unless that's what you want?

Wish I didn't know now, what I didn't know then.
Re: Superior Caravan Captain
How old is the info you are basing this on?
I know they have a newer chief pilot and i've heard things have changed over the last while. All I have is second hand info though.

Re: Superior Caravan Captain
They have a few high time rampies, 1000+hours I wonder why they aren't being put on.
Re: Superior Caravan Captain
Because if you are stupid enough to work the ramp at 1000+ hours, you have no business flying an airplane for a living.Oxi wrote:They have a few high time rampies, 1000+hours I wonder why they aren't being put on.
Re: Superior Caravan Captain
I've been out of the Ontario game for quite sometime, my understanding was that things had gone quite up hill since Northern Water Works took over the operation? It would be ashame if this wasn't the case.

My intel is, like but a few weeks old. Always looking for a scape goat. Don't be that goat.

I hear that they are a solid company... New owners have made significant changes. Progressing in the right direction.

Re: Superior Caravan Captain
I have noticed that Superior has a lot of conflicting reports as to wether it is good or bad.
Can anyone list why it is better than it was without MM, or still a crap place to be as I have heard from some first hand.
FYI, under the tutelage of MM I do have first hand experience on how crappy it was.
cheers,

Re: Superior Caravan Captain
I guess that is a subjective question flyinhigh, but I do know there has been minimal staff turnover since waterworks purchased Superior. That was never the case under MM. Also, they have purchased some VERY nice Vans, complete with TKS and Synthetic Vision. They sure don't appear to shy away from spending money on their equipment. I read on another thread that Van drivers start at 54k.
Better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than to be in the air wishing you were on the ground...
Re: Superior Caravan Captain
I've heard that of the last three rampies hired a year ago, only one actually is flying now, and only has got less then 100 hrs of caravan copiloting. Sounds like it's become significantly safer since MM left, but also takes way longer to start flying, I wouldn't recommend it for a ramp start.
Re: Superior Caravan Captain
That sounds fine for a year round position but since this is just a seasonal job (ad says there is a possibility of year round work) it is a little low in my opinion.HK_Wings wrote:I read on another thread that Van drivers start at 54k.
I would like to hear more specific details though. Illya said in November that the place was a good company and now he's saying the opposite.

Re: Superior Caravan Captain
The pilots I have spoken with that work there, or used to work there, have all stated what an improvement the new owners have been. This is all second hand, but it is from more than just a couple pilots. I guess as I stated previous, a persons opinion is subjective. i.e. was a friend fired/laid off, and they don't agree with the decision/reason why? Dunno.

Re: Superior Caravan Captain
Let me clear that up. It is heads and shoulders above the shit show it was when MM was at the helm. I had MM personally force me to abandon an IFR approach on 26 in hard IMC because he was "just inside RESIK on the inbound.....", and we were just turning inbound over RESIK at the same time, with an ATC clearance to do so. This total lack of airmanship and disregard for rules and regulations pissed me off. The whole incident was duly document, reported, and totally ignored by Transport Canada. What else is new? MM is long gone. Can't believe he didn't kill anybody, and that TC didn't padlock the doors? Again, what else is new?
Their equipment seems to be pretty damned good. Pilots are friendly. I was just privy to some strange employee relations that should have no bearing on somebody new working there.
You will, however get pretty sick of seeing YPM!!
