Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
Hi girls and guys,
I have overheard that AT would be doing some hiring early This year. I am guessing this is for the 737 Toronto based new routes.
Any info on that? Groundschool date?
Thanks.
Cheers.

Interviews on January 14th and 15th.
100% for YYZ as many commuters would love to get YUL or YVR.
Spots could be pure B737, pure Airbus or a dual qualification.
Cheers

As stated in another thread, 12 new people joining the ranks in January. No idea if more GS are planned this winter. It would be great!

You know, this reminds me of something a flight school owner in Montreal said at a French Language Police (Ministere de la Culture et Communication) market research focus group. They asked him why he insisted that all his instructors be able to speak English even though half his students were learning in French. Answer: "Pour moi, quelqu'un qui habite ici et n'est pas capable de parler anglais ... c'est un signe de manque d'intelligence." They didn't think much of that answer.mantogasrsrwy wrote:Yes, French is more important than experience.Donald wrote:Essential bilingualism (French and English spoken);
Think about what it says about someone's confidence in their mental abilities that they want to work for a French company but don't think they're smart enough to learn French. It's not rocket science people.

An American had been working in China for 10 years. One day he met up with a freshly arrived friend of his and took him to his favorite watering hole, where he was a regular patron. The newcomer asked for a Jack Daniels. The barman gave him a blank stare. "I'd_like_a_Jack__Da__niels!" the visitor repeated louder, stressing every syllable.. Still a blank stare. The regular patron, then told his buddy:
"See how stupid those Chinamen are. I've been coming here for ten years and this barman still does does not speak a word of English...."

Re: Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
I'd be interested in applying for the job, but alas, my French language ability is quite limited, and I'm afraid I may not be fully fluent by the application deadline.
Are exceptions ever made for otherwise qualified applicants, with perhaps a proviso to obtain a level of French proficiency by a set time? I'd have no problem with that. My lack of language ability in French is due to circumstance, not aversion to improving it!
Although... it seems effort would be better spent learning Mandarin, these days...

Re: Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
Couple of questions for those in the know.
Can you bid your schedule at Transat? I.E. Bid long pairings to get blocks of days off
Would it be possible to commute with AT ?
About how many days off per month would a F.O. receive ?
Thanks guys.

We use ADOPT PBS at Air Transat, so you can bid whatever you like. Getting what you bid depends on your seniority and systems constraints.
Would it be possible to commute with AT ?
Yes, many do. Not the easiest but feasible...

11 GDOs on a regular schedule, 12 if on reserve block.
Thanks guys.

Re: Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
yo all!
Wasn't being facetious in my comments, I simply had a look at the posting and the
"Essential bilingualism (French and English spoken"
seemed pretty unequivocal and unambiguous. Not with the word "preferred" as is often used when there is wiggle room. But anecdotally it would seem that it is indeed a rule that is at least slightly flexible depending on circumstance.
Don't think I'll be able to pull my CV and docs together for this hiring window though anyway.

Never flown on AT, but was talking to a couple other week who did. Flew over to Italy on some sort of vacation package, they thought the service and overall experience was quite good and wouldn't hesitate using AT services again and would recommend them.........

Re: Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
Like most carriers in Canada harsh for the first few years. this is pretty close, based on 80 hours min guarantee at the hourly rate for narrow body F/O'swhatsitdoingnow wrote:How is the start and first few years pay at Transat?
There seems to be some conflicting info on Pilot central regarding pay. Can anyone list other benefits?
Cheers
Year 1 $50K
Year 2 $55K
Year 3 $59K
Year 4 $63K
Year 5 $66K
Year 6 $70K
Year 7 $73K
Year 8 $76K
Year 9 $80K
Year 10 $83K
Wide Body payscales are the same for the first 2 years, then get a bit better. Transat seems like a good place to work now that the possibility is that you won't get laid off all the time during your first few years, but the pay scale will make it hard to attract candidates with from other 705 operators.
I don't work there but I believe that information to be accurate.
